Coming from an in-line 6, single turbo, my commute to work in my taco and everywhere else is boring.

While I didn’t buy the taco for speed, I miss the turbo spool, air intake noise, and the beautiful noise of a nice downshift.

Anyone here do any racecar mods?

Yes, I bought the wrong vehicle for fun daily commutes, but it’s worth a last ditch effort

There is the OVTUNE, that changes throttle response, shift points, etc.
They are also making a turbo for the truck, so if money is of no issue, you can get that
    on your Tacoma too.

If you like noise, but lose of low end torque, you can get an exhaust also.
I got the MRBP Dual Exhaust, and actually like the sound.
Though, you might need to do some things to cancel out the drone (resonators [tips, j-pipe, inline], sound deadening, silencer, etc.)

Aftermarket exhaust sounds like shit on these trucks because it’s a V6. Honestly, I made peace with this not being a “fun” daily driver. I appreciate the dependability of the Tacoma, but if I wanted something fun to drive on paved roads I’ll choose something else. The Tacoma shows its true merits when on dirt. If you want to enjoy driving the Tacoma more then take it off road more, and you’ll quickly appreciate the Tacoma doing what it’s meant for.

    Find the off-road route to work. It's a 4X4.

Yeah I need to get into a little more offroad, I’m waiting for the snow to fall here... patiently, so I can take it out and about and see what this sucker can do.

Good digressive suspension so you can take those mall roads at speeds.

Buy a turbo'd Miata for the good weather commutes. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gens are all bargain prices these days.

    Or one of these

I like this thought. I had been eyeing a few miatas lately since I’ve been told they handle like little go karts.

No way I’d ever sell this truck, so a second car (or bike) may be the best option for remedying boring commutes.

I’m a fan of the note as well.

Well, they handle well out of the box. With a bit of tweaking and some driving skill, they can be very competitive in stock classes at solo II events. Tart 'em up a bit and they can embaress a lot of high dollar toys.

Like Tacomas, owners can make them better or screw them up. So finding a version that is unmolested, or whom you know the owner and the build has been done right is the key to enjoyment. Just like with a used Tacoma.

And if you find / add a hardtop they are even decent in mild foul weather. Much more so than the bike option.

If serious, spend time reading on , and just for giggles, check out www.flyinmiata.com

Even the early models can look good, if I do say so myself. :D

Get a second gen 6spd, supercharge it, throw some long tube headers, and a 3" exhaust on it and enjoy! Ive practically made my daily taco into a racetruck. I grin from ear to ear every time a drive it

I've setup my truck for every minute fun. never no fun, never boring, never not fully engaging. it's what i live to do as an open wheel & kart nut. after totaling my expensive modified R32 i decided i needed a tough ass MT vehicle that wouldn't get me w/o a license in a week. so my pre-ordered Focus RS was out (which probably saved me from major head gasket drama), and i wanted reliability so this truck was the obvious choice for me.

WOULD DO AGAIN. (the chassis on this thing is amazing to drive if you're in touch with it).

it took about 6 months to figure out what i needed to make it fun. good news for me, not too much required depending on how you look at it. but I've done quite a bit now. keep in mind I'm a handling guy. i can handle my speed but this truck struggles hard to break 100 and there's not really much fun there anyway, so really it's all about tossability, weight shifting, putting power down and finding the grip. i live for it.

anyway OP you can PM me if you want cus usually not up for getting opinionated by the It's A Truck crowd. if you're in DFW feel free to hit me up.

This. Every time I get down on the power / torque on this truck I take it off-road. 4Lo climbing over rough mountainous terrain, climbing steep grades... that’s where the truck shines

mmm, short throw 2003 and older miata (they ruined them after the 3rd gen, sound familiar?) with a $2-3k turbo, are bulletproof.

One of the benefits of being stationed in the desert. If I get bored, I can take a “shortcut” on a dirt bike or empty desert trail.
