This is a well known fact. Stock will always fetch more come time for resale. Cue the mall crawler crowd hate. I’ve traded and sold lifted/modded and non lifted, stock is always the best route come resale/trade time.

I had a second gen with a custom cement color paint job. Looked amazing, but it did hurt the resale value. Original paint color is always a safe bet

Especially after being a member on this site, I can easily see that a lot of these mods (though mostly cosmetic) are worth a lot and the value of the red truck is much "higher" than the grey one.

I would say if you were buying modified sports car or lowered import, I think we could all agree it was probably beat on and really used. On the other hand, if a truck wasnt used as a work truck (hauling/construction), I would have no issues buying one modded with things I would have to add anyways.

    Just my $0.02

Love this, but starting to wonder if this amazing resale / residual value will keep on forever.

I plan on selling or trading in as is with all mods attached. The money was lost the day spent it so I don’t care.

Nothing that is worth anything. The suspension is probably not much of an upgrade over stock and the UCA's and that's it. Just a bunch of stick on items that no one cares about. Not even a lift. Maybe worth $26k

I speak for myself when I say I never look at modded cars

If it's a KN filter/cai, simple tire/wheels or tint, don't mind, but anything else ruins the fun of doing it myself

exactly. for me buying someone else's mods isn't the problem.. it's taking the fun out of doing it myself. i love the process and all the little steps along the way are so fulfilling.

And everyone's taste is different, plus you never know how the work / mods were done / accomplished. I totally get wanting to mod your taco, but don't kid yourself its worth more come resale / trade in time.

It’s all about the truck and the mods. Tacos don’t do too well in the modded used market

I personally would never buy a modded vehicle for a may daily driver or main transportation choice. You do not know the work or who did the work and what the user used the mods for. Gladly spend a more for a un-modded vehicle.

Looking at the seats no TRD Pro stitching, just look like regular seats. Is it a faux pro ?

I would buy that truck if I was in the market and anything I didn't want just strip and sell. Its funny how quality aftermarket parts don't add value yet when a dealership slap spacers and blocks for 6" lifts and black out badges its 10K+ on the value of the truck. So the whole modded idea is kinda strange. Dealer installed components are terrible if you look up close.

My mistake, I misread the ad. It is a fake pro. It is a debaged off road and added the "Pro". That probably accounts for $3K alone in upgrades.

Amen, and ESPECIALLY if you read TW regularly.
Seriously, just think about the sheer number of "HELP! I modded ______________ and now ________________ doesn't work properly!" threads.

Bottom line is the guys that mid like to mod. They don't buy mods. How many of us started out with modded trucks? Very small number i am sure. The joy in modding is to create something that is yours. Once you have done that you have to find the person with the same taste as you too come closer to getting back what you spent. But i will take a risk and say that i doubt many of us ever asked what putting a mod on was going going to do to the equity in our truck.

Used Tacoma sellers seem to list at exceptionally high prices and take a very long time to sell. They have an unrealistic expectation of value and price that into their sale, especially if it has aftermarket parts on it.

I ended up buying a used model from a dealer for less than I could find after three months of viewing craigslist in Southern California. The same trucks I was viewing over Nov/Dec are still for sale, the price slowly creeping down $500 a week. Tacoma owners need to come back to reality, this isn't a Ferrari and the dealers have plenty of inventory to offer a good deal.
