Good Morning Gents, I recently purchased a cold (hot) air intake for my 08 V6 Tacoma. I was wondering if anyone has experienced any moisture or dust and dirt issues from day to day driving to include rainy days. Also if there should be a huge concern trail riding... No I wont be in water over my hood or anything too wild :D. Thank you for your feedback.

To answer the first part of your question, I've been running a CAI in my truck since '08 and never had a problem in rain or snow no matter the intensity of storms. I've put a fair amount of highway miles and city miles in all types of weather without incident. Once a year, I'd pull and clean the filter. Just this year I replaced the filter with a new one figuring 7 years was enough for me.

I have an AFE Stage 2 that uses the stock fender hole for intake. There is a drain at the bottom of the box should I pull too much moisture. No clue if I ever did, but my engine never threw a code complaining about water - and I have driven through some nasty downpours on the highway.

Hope this helps on the day to day driving question.

Nice thanks for the feedback! I have seen on other sites as well as this one that its a bad idea and I think it just may be the anti CAI peeps. I sidelined my 01' tacoma by going in over the hood due to a rookie mistake but after six months of blowing white smoke she cleaned herself out...Incredible truck

I have a 07 Mustang with a CAI that is far more exposed than the truck and it hasn't had in issue in the 5 years I've had her. Hell, my old Roadstar had an open oiled-breather. Put hundreds of miles through downpours and the bike ran true.

Another option to consider is the infamous Deck Plate Mod. Open it up to let in the air, close it up to take it off roading. Not a bad idea, very inexpensive, and done by many.

I've driven in heavy rain with my AFE Stage 2 SI and no issues. Even with the Volant Ram Air I still didn't have any issues. Almost 2 yrs with this setup and still good.

Thanks man! Have you done this deck mod on your 08 v6? Alot I see about the deck mod I only see info about 04 and older? I also am getting tired of reading hours of forums for one answer...so much info on here.

Thanks Marine! I really like the enclosure on that as well as that huge induction! I cheaped out and didnt put one on with an enclosure like that. I was thinking of building something out of possibly plexy glass to enclose the intake and use the OE fender vent as an air supply...

No, I installed an AFE where it draws in the outside air through the wheel well. The deck plate mods I've seen over the years are grill-facing, thus you should get cooler air while on the move. Search this site for deck plate mod, lots of good info.
