I've ran it 6 times now. Its still filled in. I like running it west to east. It's more scenic imo.

The problem with west to east is that you have to drive home from Nevada when you finish

I know the water level isn't as high anymore since they filled it in w/ rocks but damn, that is LOW :(

Needles? Littering and tagging aren't a surprise. But, heroin addicts don't seem like the overlanding type to me, seems like a lot of effort and money they could be using on drugs instead.

Last time I had to keep my dog on a leash because he kept trying to smell a bunch of needles.

It was near Afton, which is pretty close to the freeway. Doubt they're camping there. A tahoe for example could make it pretty far in.

That seems really mellow. Although I think we are going to end up going elsewhere this weekend. Thanks for the info this is definitely in my TODO list before it gets too hot.

Damn that is DEEEP and no joke. That hugging puts you a bump away from rolling and drowning in poopy water.

Report back after your trip as well. I'll be heading there in the next few months.

Wave to the train operators when they pass by, they wave back!

If you have kids I'm sure it would make their day.

Yeah my window was open too, would've been no bueno lol.

That was my second time doing it and it was a good 6" deeper than the first time. You can see by the greenery around the crossing that we'd had a good rain season that year which is probably why it was more full than usual.

Damn, that’s legit deep. Deeper for sure than when I went a few years back.

Also, wtf, they filled that in?? All good things get screwed up eventually I guess

I spend a lot of time out by Afton Canyon and there are a lot of methheads that go through there.

So I have about 6/32 left on my stock Goodyear Wranglers... good enough for Mojave Road?

Or should I get a new set of tires, either jumping up to 265/75/16 or 255/85/16 on the stock rims for the trip :anonymous:

I already have a set of 285/70/17 KO2s... but I don't think the rims will come in time for my trip to use them :annoyed:

You will be fine, for the most part its a packed sand/gravel road. If things go wrong, there's cell service for most of it, constant traffic and the interstate is within 20 miles.

I was hoping you'd say "nah get the 255/85/16s":bananadead:

For sure, I think I was kinda overthinking it :anonymous:

You know what a bad idea would be? Buying new tires that don't fit the new wheels you already ordered. If you are into throwing some money away I've got some things on the list you could buy me.

You've got 4wd so should be fine. Both times I've run it we've had 2wd guys in the group and only one time did someone get stuck, when we took some side trails that went through fairly deep sand. As long as it's dry it's an easy trail. If it rains though I would be wary, especially if the trail going through the dry lake bed is muddy from recent storms
