Anybody run the river crossing recently? Looking to get a gauge on depth before planning my trip down there in a few weeks...

I haven't heard anything recently about the state of the water crossing, but if it's still filled in then you will be fine. Even if it isn't, it's not like we've really had much rain...but they do get thunderstorms out in the desert so who knows.

Just keep this handy, it shows the other way to get to the freeway about 10 miles before you get to the crossing (Basin Rd). Just have to backtrack a bit if you get to the crossing and decide not to use it.

I would be EXTREMELY surprised if anything had changed. And, you've got even less to worry about due to the time of year.

Even if you don't plan on doing the crossing, I would still do that 10 mile drive through Afton Canyon...it's really beautiful

Best part of the whole trip, IMO.

Hell yea, fellas. I'll at least go take a look at it. I got a bit spooked watching some videos from before it was filled in lol.

This is what the water crossing at the trestle looked like on Sunday after New Years. Doesn't look like anyone has gone through it since the rain. Lots of water in Afton Canyon though and the river banks were frozen.

Did you venture through the crossing? Hard to tell from that pic compared to mine from March last year. It doesn't look that much higher but it could be deceiving based on the photos.

Nope, the water was too cold, otherwise I would've gauged the depth and possibly ventured through.

Nice Tundra. Been looking for one for half a year now in Southern CA and can't find the right one for under $12k. Most are trashed or pushing 300k

Thanks  Think we chatted a bit in another thread about your search. I can believe that you can't find one for the price, they've definitely held their value.

Yeah I thought I recognized your username. Looks like it was a fun trail ride. Did you need 4wd for this trip with that snow on the ground?

The trestle crossing was already pretty deep before all the rain.

This was in November (and not the deepest point). Not sure I'd do it again without a properly sealed snorkel.

There really wasn't much snow or ice so no. You could get to the trestle with 2WD. If you follow the train tracks out east once you get out of the canyon, there's a lot of soft sand you'll need 4x4 for though.

Thanks for the report! I'm considering keeping the 2wd taco and throwing a TrueTrac in it to see if it's "enough" for situations like this.

What the water crossing at the campground looked like earlier this year after they filled in with gravel. Good for 2x4 without a snorkel or rock lights.

So not true....I cant count how many times ive been on the Mojave trail and never got stuck at any point along it. I'm 2WD and almost never use my locker...even in that sand you are speaking of.

3 weeks ago in the exact sand east of the trestle bridge
