holy shit! responses are coming in faster than i can keep up. the exhause idea is a good one, but i have around 50 holes that i can find so far. it would be hard to plug all that up. i think poison or traps (or htat concussive device) would be my best bet) I'm pretty sure that concussive device would tear up my yard but i'd be totally worth it.

Frank, as for what i plan to do with the yard, not too much. i mainly just wanted privacy (cant wait for the wife to do some naked sunbathing :)). i like plants, so i plan to do a little landscaping, but my only big plan is to get a decent garden going. although i'm running a bit behind and have only broken up a small portion of what i plan to use. its so hard to get motivated once it gets hot outside

I believe the moles eat grubs. If you go to lowes or where ever they sell grub control gets yourself some of that. Also the spikes. Good luck.

Yeah the initial earth turning job is a drag but the payoff is great-nothing like a fresh tossed salad from the garden with your steak:)
shoot we had an inground pool, a vegetable garden, a flower garden, a wild patch of forest on one side, a tree house, a BBQ pit and patio, hammocks swings horseshoe pits lol it's crazy what you can fit into a couple acres. You're going to have some good times there.

Cinch traps and 2 drops of earthworm oil on the trigger. Earthworm oil fishing scent. Moles really dig the earthworms, since it is there mainstay. Gotta bait them in folks!!

Use Diazinon, or some similar insecticide you can get at any hardware store, to kill the grubs in/under your lawn. The moles are coming into your lawn from the surrounding woods to feed on the grubs. Since your lawn is bordered by woods it will probably be difficult to keep your lawn totally mole free - but if you get rid of the grubs the moles will reduce drastically. You can also use poison designed to kill moles. I have used a product called Mole-nots in the past with good success. Small brown pellets that you drop into the tunnels - this will fairly quickly take care of the moles that are currently digging up your lawn. Don't try pumping water into the tunnels - it will only make a bigger mess of your lawn than the moles are.

i'm a little skeptical of the poisons since i do have a cat that likes to try to dig them out and gnaw on them.

Was just going to post about that. If you like the cats I'd stay away from poisons.
