supposedly moles love juicy fruit...so if you can figure out how to bait traps with that...you should get rid of them temporarily

go after the grubs though for a long term solution

I am pretty sure this is the only guaranteed way to not have to deal with them.

If you have females, which it sounds like you do if you have seen babies, they rarely (if ever) move.

I had one in my yard several years ago.. I researched like crazy to figure a way to get rid of it. Nothing I did helped. Believe me, I was obsessed with getting rid of that thing. I tried every suggestion anyone gave me (traps, smoke bombs, hose, firecrackers, poison, some kind of bobcat urine that you spray, owl statue, stakes you put in the ground that send out shockwaves, you name it) nothing helped. Luckily it was a male and moved on. I really hope you find a way to get rid of them, but I was unsuccessful.

    Good luck!

juicy fruit gum does work, not just any gum, juicy fruit, works better on woodchucks though

try castor oil or castor pellets to repel them , it works

do you like bill murray and chevy chase? if so you haven't seen their best work until you've seen this. i dont usually like older comedies (i hate 70's and 80's production value, it makes things hard to watch sometimes) but caddyshack is timeless (except for the super short shorts on the guys. i cant believe that was every acceptable)

I'm not sure if this is legal, or if you can even get ahold of this stuff cause you need a pesticide license for it, but for prairie dogs we use these poison pellets that when the ground is moist, it releases some nasty chemicals that kill them. Do every hole one time, and guarantee your underground death toll will be insane.

As far as a controlled burn, it doesn't work as well as you would think, there are too many air pockets underground. We've had fires go over P dog towns, and it never phased them.

On the farm that I grew up on (20 acres of cattle and hay pastures) we used sulfur chips and a propane torch to kill gophers and moles. You can buy farm grade sulfur at a farm supply store (Ag West out in Oregon). We would dig out the hole a little bit, enough to make a nice pocket that led directly into the tunnel network. Then place 1 to 2 cups of sulfur chips into your pocket and burn it with the propane torch. The sulfur burns and emits a toxic gas that fills the tunnel network.

We found this to be the cheapest and most effective method. Sulfur stores easily, and propane is usually readily available and cheap. We only had to do this once to twice a year because it killed everything in the tunnel networks. The key is making sure that you get to every tunnel network the day that you do it. Leave some behind and they will re-populate your problem.

Said Toxic gas is called Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) and Sulphure Dioxide (SO2). Both of which are actually lethal to humans in very low doses. I work in industry where these are prevailent and have seen people go down. From a shear safety standpoint, i'd say don't do it. Or be smart enough to know wind direction and hold your breath.

Those points aside, since your burning it, hot gas rises, so it would more likely rise out of the hole then anything anyways.

It is a bit "harsh" if you breath it in :) but we did hold our breath when we could to prevent it. We got it to travel into the hole by digging a pocket that was level in depth, or just a bit lower than the tunnel network (usually 12 - 14"). We then used the "thrust" from the propane torch - a two handed torch attached to a BBQ tank - to push the gas into the tunnels. If you run the torch for a few minutes, the sulfur has no where else to go but into the tunnels; it usually wouldn't float up to where the operator could breath it in. If it does, then you are probably doing it wrong (wrong angle of the torch, the more level the better). Also, speaking from a basic chemistry knowledge (help me out here), wouldn't the small amount of SO2 that escaped the thrust of the torch diffuse by the time it reached 5 ft about ground level (or possibly 6 ft to the operator)?

Speaking from experience, we never got more than a bad cough or two if we breathed it in, and it rarely happened. If you start to cough, move, or turn the torch off.
