Does anyone have experience with these? I'm thinking about them to replace the 4600s I have that are shot after 50k miles. It is 99.9% on road use. They are cheaper than replacing the OEM shocks and all the associated hardware with the bonus of not having to disassemble everything. When I have done struts in the past, I have always replaced all the bearing mounts and associated hardware but not sure I really need to in a truck since it has upper control arms to carry the load.

I have to think your ride would suffer and they would wear out faster.... If you want quality, get Bilstein 5100's, if you care more about price, maybe the Monroes are what you want.

I can't say I was impressed with the life of the OEM Bilsteins so that is part of my hesitation to buy another set. I'm just over 50k of old man pavement driving. Over the last few weeks, it wants to dance all over the road on any less than perfect asphalt.

5100's /= OEM replacement... 5100's are much better, everyone and their mother around here runs them.

I have first hand experience with the quick struts, I foolishly put a set on my 1st gen before trading it for my 09. They are cheaper than 5100's because they are cheap (not in a good way). It was my 2nd time installing struts, the first time I used spring compressors and bought all the separate parts so this time around I wanted to do it quicker.

    No good.

I did everything I was supposed to, torqued everything down to the correct levels and made sure it was all perfect, but the first time I drove them something was clunking whenever I went over any large bump and especially when I was turning and went over a bump. I never did figure it out but from what I've read the QuickStruts often come untorqued or mistorqued so the center nut might be loose. I don't know if that's what was wrong with mine but even without the clunk I wasn't impressed with the feel and the ride.

If you don't want to mess with a spring compressor you could buy the parts and pay a shop to assemble it, or if you can afford it you could buy new ones pre-assembled from wheelers offroad. Either way, I really don't think the monroe's are worth the money.

Switched to 5100's and can't say anything bad about them they are much improved over stock and Bilstein stands behind them.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am not interested in cheap for cheap sake, but I was interested in lowering the time and labor as well as not having to mess with spring compressors. I would rather not have a shop do the work because when I have in the past, I have always been disappointed in the quality of the work.

I guess I will just need to plan a little extra time to do the job.

It looks like there are a few vendors on here that carry the 5100s. Any recommendations regarding price and customer service experiences?

As stated above you can buy a set pre-assembled if you don't mind paying a little extra. I definitely would consider it if I ever change out my 5100s for something different. Wheeler's and Downsouth Motorsports are excellent vendors.
