We do some. I have run with the Bozeman Mountaineers a few times and recently did a small run with the new Lewistown 4x4 club. My B4B ( best 4wheelin buddy...lol ) also runs with the Rimrockers 4x4 out of Billings.

A number of us do runs almost every weekend and 1 monthly club run so we are all over the place. I also run with Continental Four Wheel Drive Association so I am often as far south as Dillon and or Ennis. How far south your refering to??

I can hook you up with some great wheelers out of Bozemen. Not everyone in the club is into tube buggies (rock crawlers) but a good number are.

Yes, that is Rock Creek Trail just above where you camped. It is the one you could not get accross for deep water the time before that too. Somewhere on here is a pic on Tony's rig hood deep in Rock Creek.

That Butte club is a kick. Real good people. Their next ride is May 20th. They are heading to Boulder Lakes out of Twin Bridges.

I'd love to get to know more locals, I assume they're on m4x4a? If nothing else just let them know I'm on that forum as well and would love an invite or two. :) I know I've only found a fraction of the roads and trails in this area...having a tour guide is always nice.

Speaking of m4x4a...I wanted to ask you about the trail book '4x4 Routes of Western MT' that I saw mentioned over there. Is it worth buying? Since the planning for our meets seems to fall on my shoulders I'm always searching for new areas to drag everyone to and there is no online source to gather trail info.

Most of the clubs communicate via Facebook these days so very few of the club runs are posted on M4x4a ahead of time. The 4x4 clubs are a bit hardcore as a general statement for your rig. Tony can tell you more as he has been with us so many times. His rig is set up well for what we usually do.

Willie's book is a good one but most of the trails are in the western third of the state. Anaconda, Missoula, Boulder, Deerlodge....etc. I think it is a good book to have and got one some time ago. It gives some of the history of the areas and turn by turn directions.

After Divide Ride I will share the DR trails with you in the Whitehall area and south of there. There are a nuber of great areas there that don't require you hate your vehicle. lol

A few of us from Helena are planning a couple sightseeing runs (like to Hecla Mines down by Dillon) later this spring/summer. Some family type runs. I can kick you an invite. Also watch the calender on m4x4a as I tend to post the F4W club runs there.

Actually I'm hoping Tony will help with the June meet so HUSH!

I don't do the Facebook

AND ARE YOU MAKING FUN OF MY TRUCK?!?!? I love my truck...I know that I push the limits of what it can do but I still wouldn't trade it for anything.
I think by now you know what I'm capable of and I know about some of the runs that Tony has gone on with you guys.

    You be quiet!

    I have heard that somewhere.

    :eek:UhhhhhHHHH....NEVER! Sorry ma'em! :p

:crapstorm:No, I am not making fun. It's a great truck. But I would never want you to take it where you are guarnteed to damage it. I have to be carefull about that too as I am in no rush to hurt mine either. just need to pick and choose the right trails. I have enjoyed running with you and the TACOs and look forward to doing it again. That's why I am still lurking here. lol

How very tactful of you
I know I was at the upper reaches of both my comfort level and my truck's capabilities last summer. But I survived to tell the tale so I'm proud of that.
You're welcome with us anytime. As far as I know we will have a June meet (date TBD), July meet (July 14th) and August meet (24-26). The July and August dates are set because they have to work with krap22 and HomerTaco's vacation plans.

I just couldn't get with the program on Rock Creek. I don't know what my problem was but I just wasn't feeling confident all day and I was getting frustrated with myself. I know I made mistakes....then the next day on Skyline I felt great and thought I did a much better job navigating. I'm still convinced that Skyline is where I cut my side wall though, my back end did slip a couple of times on those rocks.

I think I handled the situation worse than the truck did

I would never do those switchbacks alone. I really recommend a ground guide who knows what they are doing for that trip. Doing it alone is crazy. Heck, if I had not had a real trust for who I was with, I would never have done them. Up was not easy but down was just nuts. The rest of the trail is not really difficult. Just BEAUTIFUL! Bear spray may be a better investment for this area than lockers. As long as it is dry, I don’t think lockers are needed and in those VERY tight corners, may make things harder. And while a winch is always handy to have around for comfort, there really isn’t anywhere to hook to in the switches. All things I would want to add for serious 4 wheeling but not as necessary for that trail.
