guess what I get to do this evening? Test drive a truck for mom and dad. And guess what kind of truck? A white, '99, extended cab, SR5 Tacoma! Is it weird that dad and I could have matching vehicles? This could get confusing.

    Ha! It wasn't 7...it was 2...

nice truck but compared to mine its hard to believe that the two are the same model year and everything! Mine still looks near showroom quality and this one is showing its age. mom and dad are coming over friday to see it first hand so we could be a two tacoma family very soon.

The salesmen started drooling over my truck...I told them I would only part with it if they would give me an even trade on an '09 or '10. That shut them up quickly.

Thats not a bad looking truck. So when you got new tires did you get rims too?

It's definitely showing its age. Lots of chips and dings on the paint, lots of rust underneath (frame looked good it was just everything else under there that was rusty). We'll see what dad says tomorrow.

Nope, no rims for me. Didn't want to fork over that much money and I really don't like aftermarket rims. I only found one style that I liked and they were over $200 each not including shipping. I'd be too afraid to take my truck anywhere for fear of scratching them up! I'd rather have stock rims in that situation.

yep, its from Ressler. I just went on their website one day last week, on a whim, and there it was! Funny thing is, almost 3 years ago (Nov 2nd to be exact) that's exactly how I found my Toy. Dad's happy, he's tearing into it tomorrow...he had to finish up his honey do list this weekend before he could play with the truck

Tempted to steal the shell off the back? :D

So after a long debate with myself and family, I am coming to y'all for some 1st hand advice.
Is 4x4 absolutely necessary if I end up moving to Missoula? I have a prerunner, so it has the diff. locker, and a great set of tires, but I heard that still won't help me in the end.
    Any help?

Ewww...no way! I prefer to go topless. :D
I did try to steal the fender flares, that would save me from having to buy bushwackers. But dad said no way. :(

There are Prerunners here in MT. The biggest problems with any two wheel drive vehicle in the winter is getting going and keeping the rear end behind you. Having weight in the back will help, I'll be getting my sandbags out here in the next couple of weeks. I can run around most of the time in 2wd, once in a while (usually during or right after a storm) I have to kick it in 4x. You will just have to relearn how to drive once the bad weather sets in just like everyone else. I recommend to go out early - say 4am - and go play in the snow. Find an empty parking lot and see what happens when you punch the gas or slam on the brakes, how fast can you take a turn without your rear end trying to take the lead. I plan on doing just that once we get a good storm - I have yet to really drive my truck on snow/ice since I did the suspension and I have new tires. I don't know how either of those things are going to affect my truck and I want to find out when no one is around for me to crash into.

I know you mentioned before that you were thinking of selling your truck and getting a 4x4 up here. Two things to consider: good used tacos are rare (I do have a knack for finding them though!) and when you do find one you will be paying a good amount for it. I'm not sure what sort of miles you have on your truck but I can almost guarantee that if it was on the local Toyota dealer's lot right now it would be priced around $10k. hey Colton, your old Taco just sold. Do you know what they were asking for it? Just to compare...

Thanks!! Well my Tacoma has 88,000 miles. I am thinking about selling and trying to find an old Toyota truck now because I want to use some of the money from the truck for tution. Something I can beat up and not worry as much about it. Plus, I bought my truck for a couple thousand below the blue book, so after I cleaned it up really well and upgraded some things, I think I might be able to make some money out of it :D

My 03 with 70k on it.... Double cab TRD OR. Asking price from the dealer was $17k, sold for 15,500. It sold for more than it was worth IMHO, but so many people want them... If I were to sell mine now, I would list it about 17k and have no concern that it wouldn't sell at that price up here.
