I paid a transmission shop to do my transmission earlier in the year. They pulled the pan, filter, cleaned it all manually.

No tags filled yet but lots of close encounters. Monster whitetail came in range last night, unfortunately he knew something wasn't right and sauntered off before I was able to get drawn on him. That deer will haunt my dreams tho!

There's a reason I dont camp up there this time of year...
There has been an attack by a bear almost every year for the last several years. And I suspect that this wont be the only attack this year. With the areas burned in the fires last year and the year before the bears lost a lot of habitat. They'll be venturing into new areas, probably closer to the roads and camping areas.

Yeah. Could be. Three men attacked in two situations on the same day in the same area? Good chance it's the same bear. FWP needs to find and kill this one. Sad, but true.

you do for a visit to our 'hood, Joe?

wondering if the hospital staff was able to get any hair samples or anything from the wounds for testing. I expect there will be a FWP bear trap up there soon.

:( I always have mixed emotions regarding the euthanasia of wildlife for the sake of campers and city folk alike. sigh.

Ironically I was just having discussions with my children on Sunday about this very issue. The bear populations here are overly healthy. Grizzly everywhere, pushing brown/black bears closer to residential areas. Bears are not afraid of humans much anymore. Gonna get worse before it gets better.

Plus with all the fires the last few summers, as @MTgirl pointed out there's a lack of habitat.

It's a very delicate line we walk when trying to "co-habit" an area with the wild life. All the more reason for Leave no Trace principles. Although I understand there's only so much one can do. All creatures try to enjoy this wonderful place, human or animal.

Yeah but we can't just never go into the woods/mountains. The kids and I discussed how delicate the balance is. Deer populations impact bear/lion/wolf populations, and bear/lion/wolf populations impact deer/elk populations. Etc. Food sources. Habitat. Talked about how hunting is/can be an act of conservation. For example, if deer populations get too large it impacts habitat, can cause too much predatory growth, which in turn can diminish prey populations if the predator populations get too big. It's all interconnected.

Wolf and bear populations are getting big around here.

I always hope they try relocation first.
Gotta think that with it being archery season the hunters were probably being super quiet and way off in the trees. Both things you shouldn't do in bear country but if you're hunting thats the risk you take. They were in the bear's territory and they have to respect that. Unless the hunters were wearing t-bone steaks as necklaces and covered in honey its not the bears fault.
But relocating a bear this time of year could be tricky. Taking it out of its home turf so close to the time when they should be looking for a place to den for winter...that's a gamble that it would be able to find a comfy spot for a snooze in a new home with such little time left in the season.

I definitely understand this. And in a way I feel like it kind of goes back in the day to when humans hunted responsibly and helped keep these populations in check. While I am not currently a hunter, I do want to learn. I bought a bow just for this purpose and took lessons and ended up being invited to participate on a competition team... but target shooting and hunting are different. I have a huge appreciation for the animals (esp when I eat them) but also for the natural selection that needs to occur to keep the ecosystem stable. Maybe one day I'll find someone that doesn't mind me tagging along on a hunt so I can simply learn.

Actually, it's kind of like TW. We're all here to learn, have a little fun, yea, but we all want to learn.

Took the power wagon up to Caruthers lake with @w.adventures and his gx470 yesterday. Was a an experience in the big truck. Going back downhill was way worse than going up
