Hey everyone. Just avoid Cooke City unless you want to go to jail. Just sayin'

They won't let business owners go to Cooke City because of the COVID lockdown.

If any of you Montana Taco folks are planning a trip you should probably cancel it. Unless you work for FedEx or UPS of course.

As far as I understand, the park is open from the WY side. Phase II will open it from the MT side.

Pretty sure the Federal Parks Service does have the right to close a “U.S.” highway. This whole Covid thing has made it very interesting to see what people think their legal rights are vs what the reality is. Hope that’s not you in the video because the guy clearly doesn’t get the whole quarantine concept or the fact that even from the other direction, you go though part(s) of WY. So his argument is kind of without merit.

@shane100700 you should unlike my response. Out of respect for our resident administrator I'm not going to reply to your response. But I'm not agreeing with you.

    I'm siding with the rangers.
They've heard every excuse and then some. Add in all of the craziness thats going on now...yeah. People are dumb.
If the dude had a legit reason to be in Cooke did he bother to take the time to call the park and ask if he needed any special documentation to pass through? Did he provide any proof at all to the rangers that he was on a business related trip and not just out for a drive or a quest for a bison selfie? He dug a hole, ain't nobody going to help him out of it.

Exactly... anyone actually from here knows to do some research before heading into those areas. Road conditions, Covid, park road closures... all of it plays a significant role. My wife didn’t believe me about weather changes in MT until I took her to top of the world for the first time. Shorts to not enough coats in less then an hour.

Not to mention that those MT side closures are on the state government just as much as the federal. They are likely only manning those roads because they were told to do so because our side is still closed. Also the quarantine thing is basically irrelevant if you just drive through Chief Joseph pass without actually stopping in WY.

Also it's not a state highway. The park service maintains it so yes they can close it. It's federal land after all..

That was my point too... it’s a U.S. highway so federal has the right. Considering it crosses into the MT side, I was speculating why it was closed to the MT side though.

The weather change is no joke. I grew up in the Midwest so when my wife said how montana weather would change so quickly I was all skeptical. “Can’t be that bad,” I was so naive, lol. Now I always carry a coat in the car, because you never know.

No person should ever need permission to access property they own. Ever. Period.

As a business owner it is your job to be in compliance of any state or federal regulation set in place. If that means he needs to get a sticker, he needs to get a sticker.

With that logic I would love it if all land locked public land was 100% accessible. Since technically I own that as a citizen of this county. And yet..here we are.

Who cares if you own land in spot XYZ. If you have to cross federal and state land with federal and state roads to get to it. gotta follow their rules. Doesn't matter if you're a business owner or not.

it's such bullshit because the people that lock it out always just use it to their own advantage big time.

And its usually a prime piece of land that only gets used by the surrounding landowners.

Anyone know if you can drive to West Yellowstone on 191 right now or do you have to go through Ennis? I have never driven down there but it looks like the road crosses into the park and I didn't know if there were road blocks. I am going camping on Hebgen Lake next weekend and just thinking ahead. Thanks

191 is open but all of the trailbeads and turnouts are blocked off. You can drive thru, no hiking or fishing.
