Ooooh sounds like fun. That was a nice little easy trial, didn’t rub too much with my 33s hahaha. Can’t wait to get the rest of the suspension swapped on and clearance things

@Jims2020 ...I would estimate that part was 3 hrs, maybe a tad bit more. We broke off from Holcomb down 2n09 to BB to grab lunch, then went back to finish Holcomb to Baldwin

From the start of Coxey down in Hesperia to 3N16 is about an hour and 15 min or so. It's not a very long trail, really pretty though once you get up into the mountains.

If you continue toward Fawnskin it's another 7 miles, maybe another 30 min or so. All depends on if you stop or not of course.

Yeah I did the Coxey Trail to fawnskin last weekend, was curious how much further it is taking Holcomb Valley than going straight to Fawnskin. Just gonna go for it.

Oh you mean from the start of Coxey up into Holcomb Valley? Probably about the same as Coxey to Fawnskin...when you hit that 4way intersection at the Big Pine Campground, you go left to get into Holcomb Valley which isn't too far down the road, maybe a few miles. But Holcomb Valley is pretty big and has a ton of other fire roads throughout so it's a good place to kill some time exploring

Would anyone be interested in a Red Canyon Trail run on Sunday?

I'm driving back back from Phoenix on Sunday and would be willing to do this since I'm driving right past the trail head. I'm not committed to it though, but willing if a few folks want to give it a go.

Sounds like fun! I won't be able to make it though, Sundays are stay at home days with the fam for the forseeable future for me. We definitely need to get a trail run planned soon though!

We will start planning one soon so everyone has a few months notice. The run will be on a Saturday, likely in late August or early Sep.

Hey all, how hard is gold mountain in big bear? Thinking about running it soon and have never been before. I am lifted 2” with 31.6” tires, sliders, full belly skids. 4x4 with rear locker. Pretty good experience in moderate to difficult trails and rocks. Think I’ll be good?

You'll be fine with those mods. The smaller tires will mean you'll definitely be using your skids and sliders though, I bang mine up pretty good on Gold Mountain with 33s.

It's a pretty short trail but has a handful of pretty challenging obstacles (rocks/deep shelves mostly). There are at least a couple line options if not more for each one, some harder than others

The rear locker will make life much easier on Gold Mtn, though I've seen people do it without

Awesome, that’s what I wanted to hear. I’m pretty used to banging my skids up with the smaller tires. Haha

Dang thanks for the detailed reply! I’m stoked to give it a go. Super good advice, makes me feel more confident for sure. I’ll be heading up there as soon as I can.

Post up a report and pics. It's been a couple of years since I did that trail. I just remember one ledge section that was pretty gnarly last time there. You'll be glad you have skids.

Will do! I was going to run it this weekend but plans changed and will be heading to the desert instead. I'll be heading up to big bear this summer for sure though. I need to get on one of these monthly runs with the group eventually too.
