Sounds like fun. I was rolling with a prerunner (couldn’t climb anything) until 2018, when I bought this truck. Most of the time since then has been spent building it so I’m pretty inexperienced to wheeling but that’s something I’d like to change.

Funny thing, so I was having a local shop swap in some longer brake lines today and they just called and said my passenger CV was puking grease, sooo yup. Least found that now rather than on the trail tomorrow.

for sure, though you can make it pretty far on a torn/leaky cv boot in my experience haha. Makes a mess though and the axle gets compromised. They gonna get it all fixed up for tomorrow?

We could always change it (the axle) out at the staging area, CVs are easy enough

I was fine last time I went up it  I would say once you get to the top of that first climb is a little more sketchy than the climb itself honestly... there is a super off camber right turn right at the top if I remember correctly.

Not really, I would say that is definitely the hardest part of the trail. The rest of it rides a ridge and continues to be steep incline/declines but not so much off camber. There is one rockier section right towards the end but none of us had problems making it up (I am 4x4 with open diff as well). I don't know how current this information is/what the trails is looking like recently since the last time I did this trail was with @eon_blue about a year or so ago...

Were you with us the last time we did it and the other guy in the 1st gen went too far to the left at the top of the hill and nearly toppled over? We spent over an hour trying to strap him off that spot because he was so close to tipping lol. Ended up being an hour late meeting up with the 2wd group. Can't remember the username of the guy in the 1st gen

But yeah when you come up on top of the gatekeeper you have to stay to the right to avoid that off camber spot.

I don't think so lol We went with a guy in a 3rd gen access cab and Neko (I think thats how you spell his name) in the silver FJ. I have seen a 2 people go up that and tipped into that ditch at the top and popped beads though from trying to mob it up there to fast haha

oh damn...I've yet to witness a tip up there. Although that one time was very close. I usually walk up it to remind myself where to point the front end at the top, which I'll definitely do on Saturday since I haven't been on that trail in over a year now.

we can always just have everyone that wants to go either way to meet at the trail head and decide which they want to do from there, both trails start at the same place

I haven't bought a proper air compressor so I use this. Cheap and a good backup.
