or open up a thousand hand warmers and toss them in a fire ring

although maybe that would actually start a fire, hm

I don't know if my wife would be thrilled with me doing two trips on back to back weekends but let me see if maybe I can this coming Sat or Sun...I think the weather is supposed to be considerably cooler this coming weekend.

I'm not sure what the fine is if you get caught with an illegal campfire but I'm sure it's not cheap, I've heard it's really expensive but can't say for sure. I do know they don't enforce it very well because the forest service lacks the manpower/funding to do so, but I definitely wouldn't want to be the guy they decide to make an example out of lol.

you are correct.. I forgot the emoji...its kinda inside joke with @mynameismudflap as we got a ticket for fire on the Leap Day run back in Feb. @mynameismudflap took it for the team while @CaliTaco718 tried to get us all arrested for sexual harassment of a female officer lol. (half joking)

Saw this just posted on a local FB offroad page, San Bernardino campfire/fire usage restrictions (updated)...since we were talking about it yesterday

Fire restrictions increased on San Bernardino National Forest
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – It's midsummer on the San Bernardino National Forest, and with temperatures rising, the vegetation drying and wildfires increasing in both frequency and size, fire managers are taking action to the threat by further restricting campfires, smoking and recreational shooting.
The following will be effective on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, until winter conditions allow them to be lowered again:
    • Campfires are now prohibited at Yellow Post Sites and are only allowed at open family campgrounds. You are, however, allowed to have a fire ring, stove, or lantern that runs on gas fuel and has a shut off valve, provided you have obtained your California Campfire Permit.
    • Barbecues in Forest Service-provided grill stands will continue to be allowed at Jenks Lake, Applewhite, Lake Fulmor, Lake Hemet and Fuller Mill Creek picnic areas
    • Smoking is now only allowed inside your vehicle or at open developed campgrounds.
    • Discharging a firearm is no longer allowed anywhere in the forest except for when hunting and at the three shooting ranges that operate under a special use permit with the forest: Big Bear Valley Sportsman Club, Arrowhead Fish and Game range and the Lytle Creek Firing Line.
Remember, fireworks are always prohibited in addition to dispersed campfires, such as a ground fire within a visitor-created rock ring.
There is a mandatory federal court appearance for any citation given for violating fire restrictions. There is a maximum fine of $5,000 and/or up to six months imprisonment, or $10,000 and/or one year for an organization.
For a list of prohibitions and exemptions, please read the attached Forest Order.
Visitors should contact ranger stations for any questions.

aye, I’m late to reply to this thread but it was good meeting you all last week. You guys got some nice tacos! Wish I had more time to chat, but the couple friends I rolled with were on a time crunch (and myself as well) so we rolled out ahead of the main group.

I kept thinking I’d See u guys on the trail but no dice. Even though we stopped at the second gatekeeper as we attempted and failed it.

only shots I took that day....Of course none of my truck or tacos for that matter

I'd love to but it's not easy cramming a car seat in the back of an Xtra cab 1st gen lol. It fits but only if the passenger seat is up all the way, which makes my wife pretty uncomfortable.

That and our daughter is only 7 months old so it's kind of rough because she needs to feed every hour or two which is kind of an ordeal, because again...tiny xtra cab lol.

I've taken them both with me on some easier fire road trails and for the most part it's really enjoyable, but that was back in winter when the weather was much more offroad-friendly, at least for me

Do you happen to have a link to this for cross reference? I'm camping this weekend and saw this on the usda.gov site...

    Current Fire Restrictions
The following acts are prohibited as of August 4, 2020:
    1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire except in a Forest Service provided campfire ring or BBQ within the areas listed Exhibit A. 36 C.F.R. 261.52(a).
Sounds like no propane or stove fire. Going to give the ranger district a call to confirm tomorrow.
