Went to Cleghorn and a park ranger was parked at the entrance and let us know that the trail is still closed and has been recently used illegally. He even had a tow truck there with him to tow anyone using the trail.

Went to Baldy Mesa instead and took one of the trails to the 138. We accidentally hopped on to a trail meant for dirt bikes and paid for it!

aside from the wrong turn the rest of the trail was not quite medium level but there were some parts where 4x4 was needed do to incline and soft dirt.

At the end of the day it’s all cosmetic stuff… first trail damage and I’ve owned the 4runner for about 8 years now. At the end of the day at least no one was hurt and we all drove home.

I was there a week ago and did the same thing. I’d be willing to bet it was the same exact spot too… :annoyed:

How did you get out of that trail? We had to unfortunately cut the fence cuz there were metal posts blocking the exit.

Turned around and exited the way we came in. No reason to cut fences

Why would you cut a fence? That is the type of shit that gets trails closed.

ya and I felt shitty for doing it but I didn’t want to risk going back and getting the same damage on the other side of the 4runner. I considered every other option to not get more damage or the trail shit down but cutting the fence was the lesser of all evils

The real question should be, who put those metal.posts there and why? It seems to me the trail was blocked to create an issue.

The metal post were there to designate the trail for dirt bikes but where we went in there was nothing identifying it for dirt bikes so we didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into.

this is how the trail started,

    3D500617-9D56-4EC3-ADD9-2C34362F031B.jpg
this is where I was second guessing our decision and could’ve still back out and turned around

    D8A9CAA7-A92D-4B4E-82BE-B8D908242F93.jpg
the big green bush to the right is what caused all the damage.

    566CE832-D001-4DC1-8B59-CED1D2AC9E4E.jpg
this was the moment before impact. I tried to stay as far left as possible but that obviously didn’t help

Like he said, width limit gates. Great idea when all parts of the offshoot are maintained, not when parts are cut open
Yep that’s the exact spot I think I smashed my bedside too. Luckily I was able to avoid damage when I went back up it

My theory is there is supposed to be a fence where we entered that someone took down. If you go back on that trail, there is a limit gate that you pass that you never see an exit for, then that opening that we went through, and then another limit

Posts are put there to limit the types of vehicles that can access the trail. They are placed there by local/state government. You should know this if you are going to be on a trail.

yes but like mentioned above the fence that was meant to keep us out was missing so we mistook that trail for a full width trail and not a dirt bike trail

I didn't quote you. I was responding to Old Marine Cal. Still no excuse. An app like OnX would tell you if the trail was accessible via a truck/bike/UTV.
