Working on brake lines suck. I also hate brake fluid, it is the most slippery substance ever! I woulda chose swimming also

Working on brakes in the heat on a dusty trail sucks the most lol.

Marginally better than having to do it in the snow though, I love snow wheeling but snow repairs suck hard

I think I made the right choice. We cracked a few beers, got in the water with the dogs, and had some burritos delivered. Given that I wasn't going to be able to finish the job that day no matter what, I'm damn happy with the choice I made lol

    yep, this guy gets it.

haha, yes... I had to bend the bumper back of my old 1st gen at a rest area near Glenwood Springs, CO, while it was snowing. Any work involving your hands, especially if it requires any dexterity at all sucks in the snow. Plus I had a broken collarbone, which my life that day that much worse...

Well Big Bear was a success this weekend. Temps were in the low/mid 80s during the day, which was still very hot for the elevation and the amount of time we spent in the sun. Nights were chilly and the camp fire was great!

Ran Holcomb from the gatekeeper on Saturday morning. Had some vehicle traffic from both directions and got to camp around 3:30. Made some dinner, had some brews. It was great! @Prayn4surf jumped in my rig and we did a quick turn and burn up White Mt. a ways to get some cell service. Twas a fun 30-45min or so minutes.

@AY_ARONTRD drove out yesterday morning and we ran Gold Mt. His first "technical" trail and he did great! Ran into some more traffic, not as bad, and completed the trail within a couple hours. @Docnessponster91 air locker stopped working somewhere on Holcomb but luckily it didn't become an issue until after the first two obstacles. He ran Gold open/open like a champ. Lots of skills tested and learning was had.

yeah we had to swap one of my CV axles in the snow in Big Bear once, no fun at all. Especially when you've only got a Hi-Lift to use and no wider base for it. Worked out though but that taught me it's a good idea to bring those little hand warmer packets on snow wheeling trips

As far as an August run, temps tend to be a little toasty for many of the local areas. I'll probably take August and do some maintenance on the rig in prep for lower temps in September. With San G coming up, I want to make sure the truck is ready to smash some trails.

I'd be interested in a night run to Ocotillo/Anza if it happens, but keep in mind the temps will still be HOT this time of year. @YumaTRD and I did an Anza run last year and it was 105* at midnight on top of Diablo Drop off. Was a great trip, but still toasty.

yeah as much as I don't want to work on my truck in the heat, I want to wheel in the heat even less. Gonna have to bite the bullet on the stuff that needs to get done.

If I can get it all done by mid Aug though I do want to try and run out to Mammoth for a weekend and do Laurel Lakes. Only been on that trail once and couldn't finish it because there was too much snow still in May.

That's what I'm saying. Both options suck, but I'd rather take the time to prep the truck when wheeling is not optimal in preparation for when the wheeling gets good.

Tires are VERY high on my list. I was worried about this weekends trip because my tires are in pretty rough shape but they really didn't do that bad, even when wet from the water crossings.

You're the second person to call our bluff.

I'll be honest, I am the WORST at taking pics. Really need to find a dedicated camera person who just wants to ride along and take pictures of everyone else's rigs. We borrowed a nice camera for this weekend, went to turn it on, and the thing was dead. #failed
