A funny thing happened after replacing ball joints, wheel bearings, and brakes/rotors this weekend. My new Bilstein 5100s don’t feel as harsh as they did before the upgrade. I wasn’t unhappy with the 5100s because I generally like firm suspensions. But it now drives like a new truck versus an old truck with very tight shocks. My neighbor buddy, who also has a 1st gen Taco, drove it and concluded the ride has improved. Yes, I can feel the road, but its not like the road causing the suspension any grief. It just floats down the road and follows the road surface in a straight line.

Note that I had already replaced inner/outer tie rods with OEM and new rack bushings. Someone had just replaced the control arm bushings before I got the truck in April.

Yeah, part of that "harshness" people feel is just the slop from warn out parts. I also felt the same way and I also replaced my upper/lower control arm bushings with poly ones. Those are "supposed" to give you a "harsher" ride, but I feel like the ride improved overall (which is subjective, of course).

Yeah now your suspension is actually moving and absorbing impact instead of Your worn out ball joints. Pretty scary lol.
