Curious, those with splitting and/or leaking boots are your trucks lifted?

Put the grease in after the install and weight on the wheel = see if that helps

Put grease in until the boot starts to swell, not squirt out.

last time I checked I believe they have a lifetime warranty on those parts but I could be wrong. I bought mine from rockauto. I called them the second time and told them these were under warranty and that this was the second time it has happened. I had to buy two new ones shipped to me and then when I ship the old ones back they'll give me credit for those, minus the shipping of course. kinda like the how it happened the first time.

I never checked mine before the lift, but I also didn't have a clunk before the lift, which is what led me to looking around for broken parts.

Serviceable rod ends are a big plus over stock, but not if the boots split. You'll do more damage with an open boot than one without grease.

Back to the inner tie rods for a moment. Once again as far as I know, in speaking with a Moog Applications Engineer, the inner is not made by them.

If you do use the part that comes in their box for a 4x4, and If you have access to a mill, you may want to mill flats in the socket side so that you can use the locking tabs. I would aslo recomend polishing any cuts you make since a scratch can propegate into a crack and one wheel steering sucks.

Otherwise, you will want to clean the threaded area real good (I use brake cleaner) and use red lock tight.

If you don't understand what I am saying, please have a qualified mechanic look at it.

i have had my Moog tie rod ends for a long time now (more than a year). i did NOT grease them until after they are installed for that very reason and i haven't had any issues. usually add a little grease to them every 3000 miles or so when i do my drive shafts.

Exactly two weeks after installing Moog tie rod boots split. Stupid mechanic did not install the greasable zirk fitting, so all the grease spewed out before I could get more grease in them. I think the taller boot is a design flaw, but like everyone else I was sucked in by the fact that they are greasable. So now I am left to rebuild the boot, has anyone rebuilt the boots on these? If so what boots did you go with? Thanks!

IMO the MOOG products have become garbage, I personally won't buy them. I had a buddy replace all of his front suspension on a Dodge with MOOG and he ended up removing it all and doing the job all over again. It's a shame, MOOG used to be the shiznits back in the day.

My Moog parts are still holding up, but I don't feel like their quality is the best either.

Any good alternatives? I'd hate to have to pay OEM prices and lose the ability to grease the parts.

Thanks. I saw those just don't want to buy a dozen. Might give them a try if I can order just 1 or 2.

Next time I'm at 4wd's warehouse, if they have them in stock I may check to see if they would work and then maybe split with some folks. :)

Looks like you can order the energy suspension dust boots by the pair for about $5, not bad. Just need to do some measurements.

Moog tie rod ends are garbage. I had Moog tie rod enda and sway bar end links on a diff vehicle. Both failed in less than 20k miles. I know several others that have experienced the same.

Not all in a MOOG box is made by MOOG. I spent years in the biz and just like the MOOG inner (for 4wd), there are too many parts for one manufacturer to make them all. There is a lot of cross buying. If the part itself says MOOG, then it was made by MOOG. I have had very good luck with them and they, like all moving parts, are meant to be changed as they wear. :)

 Got new moogs sitting on the work bench. My stock ones are still on with no grease and a pancaked boot. But have no play and seem to be fine. Prob put the moogs on before next alignment. :fingerscrossed:
