6'4 with a sunroof? Ouch. 6'1 here, two minutes in a sunroof truck and knew I'd be getting one without. My head literally rested on the headliner.

Is there a lemon law in your state, I know in tx if you take the vehicle in three time for the same repair and it is not corrected you can pursue this for a buyback.

    Ahh...but you did.

As I've said before, I bought my Pro mainly for the trim with no moonroof.

    Eeyore,

I have had a 96’ Explorer, 04’ Liberty, 15’ Cherokee and now 18’ Tacoma all with sun/moonroofs and regulary take my cars through both traditional brush car washes and through high pressure car washes and have never experienced any leaking. The only time I have ever experienced water through the sun roof is when I have left it open!

I have been through a really nice high pressure car wash 1 or 2 times per week with the 18’ Tacoma and have had zero leaks.

Put that back on the dealer/munufacturer. As for Lemon Laws, it all depends on where your from. It doesn’t hurt to know what your state laws are and push the dealer a little.

Leaking sunroofs went out in the 90’s like Z Cavaricci‘s. Yes, both are out of style.

    All,

2017 Inferno Tacoma, purchased used with 3k on the clock. Love it, really nice truck. But, the f-cken sunroof does leak. Toyota, after explaining to them, think rain, not a hose running water across the roof, found the leak, back center, poor gasket design or, manufacturing flaw. They are replacing the glass and gasket, it is a 1 piece affair. I’ll report back in after the replacement is complete and the leak is properly been resolved. This is my 2nd of 3 total Toyota’s I’ve owned. Toyota to this point does a very above average job of fixing the car/making it right with the customer.

Well... actually much smoother than I anticipated.... after playing with water, the dealership found the leak, ordered the replacement glass and gasket unit. It was replaced last Tuesday. I have not been in any rain yet, next week is suppose to be rainy. if it leaks, I’ll let you know.

I am meeting with the Toyota Field Rep. Wednesday this week. I will keep you all posted. Thanks for all the info, I am currently looking into New Mexico Lemon Law stuff just in case. Rpmathe, my leak is in the same place. Center rear of the glass. The dealership has replaced the seal once but not the glass. it's not just an issue of water leaking in, on top of that I have a huge amount of dust getting into the cab as well. I always close the windows when I leave the truck and almost never drive with the windows down. It's a little too hot in Southern New Mexico for that. And I keep getting a massive amount of dust in the cab. I hope come Wednesday this issue is resolved.

After having to leave my truck at the dealership overnight I picked it up today, and the roof seems to be working to keep out water poured from a pitcher, but still leaks when taken through a car wash. I have caved to the understanding that a car wash will make the seal leak, but I am having a hard time trusting the seal against rain. Toyota is claiming that the moonroof is allowed to leak a little and that it's nothing to be worried about. I really don't know, after hearing from everyone I really don't trust Toyota.
    IMG_5181.jpg IMG_5182.jpg IMG_5183.jpg

I've attached images of the seal in the closed position. To me it looks like there is still a small gap, from what I've seen of these seals they are typically pressed tight up against the metal of the roof.

    All,

I will be contacting Toyota in the morning. My truck sat out in a monsoon storm and did leak. Made a folded up handkerchief very damp. This is not right, maybe a little, my 2014 4Runner never leaked, it was in many heavy storms.

Well after several more visits to the dealership and a few calls to Toyota Corporate it would seem I'm all out of options. Toyota claims that a leak is completely allowed as per the owners manual regardless weather it comes from a high-pressure car wash or simply the rain. I was also told that the gap that I have between the seal and the roof is also acceptable. I can't believe this, nor do I accept the response. I have another phone meeting with Toyota Corporate later this afternoon, I will see what the next step is.

No I am also experiencing issues with my instrument dash cluster. At idle the light flickers. I was told by the dealership and the factory rep. that this is because the "alternator generates a slower sine wave at low RPM." That all I need to do is raise my RPMs and it will go away. A BRAND NEW VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE! But, the dealership says they do not need to take any corrective action as that is what the factory rep. has suggested.

I think I'll be looking into my options to get rid of this obviously deteriorating brand.

It's lawsuit time. A moon roof should not leak, EVER!

Agreed, I am going to hear what the corporate rep. has to say this afternoon, if it's not a solution then I'll be looking into an attorney or possibly just trading the thing away for a Jeep. It's terrible, I really liked the truck and enjoyed driving it.

I've never had a vehicle with a sunroof or moonroof that didn't eventually leak.

We've had Mercedes, VW, Jeep and Ford. Every single one leaked sooner or later.

The tiny drains are usually the problem, Florida pollen and monsoon rains get them every time.

Stop taking your car through auto car washes. They wreck havoc on your Plastics and rubbers and strip off sealers and waxes.

I would run a hose over the roof of the car and see if it leaks.

Keep taking it back to the dealer and make them fix it.

I agree with Deacon Blues...have had 3 vehicles with moon/sunroofs and all have leaked eventually...usually from aging seals..all vehicles were over 12 years old....That being said...I have NEVER heard that "leaks were completely allowed as per the owners manual" on any vehicle I have owned...Does it really say that in the Tacomas owners manual:eek:???

Hi neighbor, I'm also in southern NM. I use a high pressure car wash on mine all the time and no leaks at all. All manufacturers, GM, Toyota, Ford, Levi Strauss, Dr Pepper, everybody have a few products that don't meet standards for various reasons. Maybe it WAS built on a Friday. It's what happens afterwards that counts. I'm pretty sure Toyota will make it right. They are pretty proud of their reputation that keeps them the leader in sales figures every year. Good luck with the rep. I doubt he/she will say it's acceptable.

Never had one leak. 2007 Avalon, no leaks. 1981 280ZX with T-Tops, no leaks. Moon roofs should never leak!

Correct, they "should never leak"....but they do. Sounds like you have had good luck...I've had a Subaru outback, Mercury cougar and Buick Riviera over the past 30 years and after 10 -12 years the seals went. So yes..they aren't supposed to leak buy MANY of them do:crapstorm:
