I have always wanted a moonroof, but they stopped putting them in Access Cabs with the 2nd gens. I am too scared to go aftermarket. OEM=OK, aftermarket.... I am not that brave...

I think it has to do with the placement of the interior light and the upper console thingy.. Not enough room for a moonroof..

phil swift.jpg I am looking at the Sport and OR. I love the skewp ,but was afraid of the 'roof. That said I have a 2005 Soob with a 'roof with 150k and no leaks.
I use it all the time. I like running the AC with roof open. Ac kills the drive train heat while the 'roof lets in fresh air.
I think I'm going replace my '14 Sport with a "21 Sport now that you guys confirm no leaks.
Is there a way to keep the drains clean?
In the end if it does leak, Phil has our back!

I have had a 2021 OR since October 2020, I have no leaks from sun roof or 3rd brake light, but if I had a fake scoop I'm sure that bitch would leak.

I don't recall any 2nd Gen bodystyle having a sunroof, believe they didn't start until the 3rd Gen came out.

Bumping up this thread. I passed on several good deals because trucks had Premium packages with moonroofs.

I am in GA, so roof seal will be exposed to a lot of UV and sun. I am concerned about the long term reliability of it.
I have a chance to pick up a Pro in Lunar Rock cheap, so I am debating the moonroofs again.
It will be my forever truck. Will keep it for 20+ years. (I have had a Chrysler minivan 10 years, and will keep it another 5, with the kids).
So LOOONG term reliability is an issue for me. I came across a couple of threads her and on TN about mooonroofs leaking in the rain. Guess that's what the rain tray is for?
    Thanks for the help!

Body (torso) length has more to do with headroom than overall height. My 6'4'' neighbor is all legs and I'm 5' 10" and we set eye to eye !

I love mine and use it a lot but I always seem to forget to close it until I am in the house lol. No leaks and lots of head room with my cap on.

Anyone go through the touchless car wash? Usually hand wash it but the other day I went through the car wash, touchless to no scratch it. The water jets make the sunroof leak. Anyone have that issue? 1st vehicle I’ve had with a sunroof so not sure if pressure washes are a no go for all sunroofs.

I Have gone through the touch less car wash once a week since day one in June and never had any leaks around the moon roof. Are you sure it was closed shut all the way. Hard to believe that it would leak just saying.

Yes it was fully closed. Had a small drip only when the jets passed over it.

Then I would take it to the dealer and have it checked as it is still under warranty.

Was reading somewhere that some manufacturers say on the manual they are not liable for leaks on sunroof due to pressure washes. Will look over the manual one of these days and probably go up there.

Call the dealer as I think it is under warranty. It is considered a window so I would sure dispute it.
I had a 2012 Venza and trade it in on my new 2021 Tacoma and the Venza had tilt/Moon roof on it and it never leaked and it went through a lot of touch less car washes.
    Good luck.

All sunroofs leak to a degree. Especially the type that move up and down such as the Tacoma ones do. That being said, all manufacturers account for this. The Tacoma, for example, has a drip tray which directs any water leaking in to drain to the side channels in the roof and then it exits through one of four holes which has drain lines running down the pillars of the truck. Just double check those holes every now and then and you'll be fine. That should only be an issue if you make habit of leaving the sunroof open when debris can get in. It's still pretty well sealed.

I've got a sunroof on my TRD Sport and haven't experienced any leaks. I will say that my rear glass allows water to get in after pressure washing my truck. Once I start cleaning the interior, I often find the back of my rear left headrest has a couple water droplets. I've seen this in two other 3rd Gens, but this is also an issue on my 2008 double cab. Not worried as its a minimal amount of water, but thought I'd warn you in case you get a faulty one.

Yeah, the key is keeping those channel drain holes flowing freely. They can get kind of "mungy" over time so you need to keep them clean. I use to occasionally pour some warm bleach water through mine on my BMW to keep them clean.

PS: expecting zero water to come through when exposing a moonroof to a high pressure jet of water like from a car wash is a bit much IMO! Enough pressure at the right angle will certainly allow some water to get past those flexible seals. But I would not consider that a defect.
