Goin through pics of today's adventure!

    photo dump!!!

Went up to Payson to check out the Tonto Natural Bridge.

It's absolutely amazing by the way. We will be going back in the summer so we can hike down through it.

On the way back we dipped off onto Crackerjack Road, just north of Payson. I found this little loop while lookin around on Google Maps like usual.. lol I found a neat little lookout just off of Crackerjack, on a no name trail via Google Maps and wanted to "go there". I was unsure if we were even going to be able to traverse it.

    The loop.

We took the Crackerjack turn off, and immediately ran into frozen water crossing and puddle, upon frozen water crossing and puddle, upon.. yeah.. there were quiet a few of these

The North end of Crackerjack (where we started) was pretty aggressive terrain.. more so than I thought it would be. steep inclines, large steps, loose chunky rock, thick mud, and very tight quarters. the mud made climbing the rock somewhat tricky in some areas. 4lo locked w/ A-Trac.. all the wheels were spinnin.

then we arrive at trail 1661.. that heads out to the lookout. not even recognizable on Google Maps.

here's the turn off, which was blocked by a small fallen tree.. it wasnt the first nor the last tree or branch we would have to move..

from here.. the trail became substantially tighter and less traveled. more steps and very narrow trails made this section.. interesting.. as we didnt know what we were getting into.. or how bad it got.

this section was a steep climb with steps and loose rock. in fact we had to back up a portion because we drove past the turn off for this.. it was pretty unrecognizable.

then we arrived at the tightest portion of trail by far. a small zig zag turn didnt help the situation. I have video going through here and it sounds... awful. lol

    the carnage!!!! nooooo!!!

after the narrow passage.. we began to climb the ridge to the top.. the views were pretty impressive..

    At the top

the way back down (south end of Crackerjack) wasnt bad at all. it opened up to a smoother, wider trail. the scenery was still amazing though.

I love the Natural Bridge. When the kids were young we would take them there all the time.

That trail you found looks awesome. Great pics.

did you guys hike down in it or swim down there at all? I really want to go back and check more of it out. a lot of the trails were closed due to the weather.

and thank you! I almost missed the turn off for it coming back from Natural Bridge.. it came up quick

Never did swim in the water, but did see lots of people do that. Yeah we hiked all over there plenty of times. I think the best is to go down the first trail, I think it is number 4 on their map, when you first pull through. Then after you hike down that little trail just follow the rocks/water to lead you to the back side of the cave. Then come up where you took the picture of that long bridge.

I know exactly what trail you're talking about. in fact.. yep.. have the trial map right here. lol

That would be nice. we were forced to turn around not to far into trail 4.. along the creek at the waterfall. then the same thing down at the base of the bridge. that loop sounds fantastic!

    time fly's right??

if you zoom in and check out that 1661 trail thats off of Crackerjack.. it gets real tight and disappears a few times. lol

there were a few other smaller trails that shot off from Crackerjack, as well as Tee'ing off to head towards the verde river. you can cross the verde then head into Payson via Main st.

Ugh you are making me so jealous of your weather! Sometimes I wish it was sunny and no snow here during winter but then I also love snow wheeling. Definitely going to take a road trip down to your part of the world sometime!

Definitely go hike it in the summer! It's really neat down there. That trail run sounds awesome....well except for the super tight spots. I'd probably cry listening to the sounds of Spruce Mica screaming while getting stripped off. Haha.
