Did you read the article or are you just talking out your you know what. The plan is to use aluminum extensively on body panels and driveline components along with reducing the fuel tank to save weight which would increase mpgs. If the new Colorado or Tacoma can get 23 to 25 mpgs out of the v6 offerings( which is easily achievable when the full sizes pull 20 with a v8 plus weigh thousands more) then a 17 gallon tank would still give you more range than the current 21 gallon tank.

    :annoyed:
    Jesus Christ.
Did you guys READ the other posts in the thread? Because THIS is the one that I was responding to, the one that set the parameters I have been talking about.

It deals SOLELY with MPG gain from downsizing the tank. NO OTHER COMPONENT CHANGES EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. Hence my response:

From which all of your responses that have followed have stemmed. The two comments made deal in NO WAY with other structural changes to the vehicle; simply a reduction in tank size.
While I agree that structural and mechanical alterations would yield MPG increases, thereby increasing range, and thereby allowing for a tank reduction, there's not a snowball's chance in hell that simply shrinking the tank will do it. Not if you expect to keep the same range.

Vibration does = bad for hybrids, but if they're properly damped with rubber mounts, etc it's not as big of an issue. JD has started selling hybrid frontend loaders over the last couple of years; I remember reading an article about it in popular mechanics or something. To be fair, they're too new to see how they'll hold up long term, but I imagine the did do a fair bit of testing on them before going to market. :notsure:

You hate something you know nothing about ? That doesn't seem like a very informed opinion

I mean options in general, and not just to Toyota but to all trucks/cars. Just because its best for you does not make it best for all. I just think its funny how a thread about weight savings turned into the same old diesel debate

74-76 Camaros have aluminum bumpers. It's holding up a lot better than the rest of this vehicle.

Can't say I don't agree , every thread on this whole site eventually turns into 1 of about 5 different worn out arguments

Some of this Some of that
Ford has been using aluminum driveshafts and fiberglass hoods on some vehicles for years. Aluminum is definitely a good idea, but it would be interesting to see how it affects crash ratings and such.. Like mentioned before i bet prices would sky rocket and make it nearly impossible for the average guy to get ahold of one..

fuck aluminum, just turn the Tacoma into a unibody grocery getter to save on gas. Half the people who own them drive around with them empty and never use the bed or the 4x4 anyway + with no frame to rust away it's a bonus for everyone.
