more trouble with my 2020 taco.. got in the truck and had 4lo blinking and a new message “2wd-4wd mode change malfunction” haven’t used 4th in about 6 months. Doesn’t feel like it’s in 4wd much less 4lo..

Were you trying to change into 4 lo? Or were you driving around in 2wd when you got the warning?

    update:
Pulled over and switched to 4h. For 100 ft them back to 2wd, reversed then same with 4lo then drove for a bit, stopped turned off and error “went away”…

    transfer actuator be broke
If you did anything that helped, it was shutting off truck and restarting, as the 4wd ECU checks the state of the 2 actuators on engine start, and after restarting feedback in the transfer actuator must have read differently. (note, in my experience the truck wont actually do ANY changing of the actuators when its displaying that warning)

    It will be back

Have you done any water crossings or perhaps had a rat attack?

When I started the truck it came on. Haven’t used 4LO in over a year, and 4wd for over 6 months or so

I meant crossed any streams or deeper water potholes - even a while ago?

A good reminder to engage 4WD every month for at least a few miles.
