I can see how that is ambiguous. But it means illuminating in this case.

Because if you look at all the types of lights they list, one cane literally have all of them on the vehicle… but no more than four can be on/illuminated at one time.

It came off a bit like a sky is falling post and when it was discovered that the intent of the regulation was misunderstood in the original, then the debating and correcting came out.

You mean the hazard flashing lights? You could be right but seems odd to call them passing lights unless it means it's ok for people to pass you if you have them on.

Yeah that's the only thing I can think of. I know they're also called "parking" lights. Lol

    Didn’t you say this…

“I live in Pennsylvania, but my truck has “illegally wired” foglights because they are aftermarket, thus allowing the foglights and high-beams to be turned on at the same time. I don’t think CA has safety inspections, but PA does. My mechanic installed the foglights, so he just slaps an inspection sticker on it; I also live by the following the philosophy…”

Google claims passing lights are another name for driving lights or auxiliary lights.

Maybe the term "passing lights" is supposed to mean "I'm going slow, go ahead and pass me"?

I've never really heard that name either

Roughly 5-6 yrs ago, MA has recorded/monitored state inspections. FWIW the rules haven't changed as to what will pass/fail, just that now there's some oversight being done.

It's not so much the kid that has a financial interest, though I don't disagree this could come in. It's also the person (be it kid or owner) who is doing the job by their understanding so they don't get in hot water with the state..or as happened to me at least once, someone who just chooses to fold their arms across their chest and get belligerent.

My belief is that you're right re the actually being lit up. And agreed it's not a bad idea. At least initially in this process, it comes back to what i said above where it could seem open to interpretation.

As I see it, I would simply change "projecting" to "illuminating" and that solves the grey area.

It gets more convoluted. I texted a buddy who owns a shop and he told me this program isnt for the everyday vehicle, he said it is targted to salvage title, new constructed or rebuilt vehicles. I told him that no where in the BAR documentation does it say anything about that. At this point confusion reigns supreme.

    And your point is…?

    The brakes are good.
    The lights work.
    The wipers work.
My truck is registered and insured.

What’s your point? I take really good care of my truck, and I fail to see how it harms society that I can turn o my foglights and high-beams the same time.

Most of the states in this country do just fine without any inspection at all, and I hardly think it’s a crime that my mechanic ignores the foglight situation when there is literally nothing else wrong with my truck.

And yes, it is my truck and I will do whatever the fuck I want with it, including put Christmas lights on it.

Didn’t the inspection station fail you truck because it was missing the center seatbelt? Massachusetts is even worse than PA!

Also, I do agree with safety inspections to an extent, but emissions testing needs to be abolished. Vehicles have gotten so fuel efficient, and technology has come such a long way, that vehicles don’t pollute like they did three decades ago..

You yourself said they’re illegally wired to be on with the brights. So you’re breaking the law right there. You said your mechanic who wired them illegally breaks the law by passing the inspection even though he knows.

NO. It’s that it’s a pain in the ass to wire it so the brights TURN OFF when the fog lights are turned on (My mom’s Nissan Murano has factory foglights, and the brights shut off automatically when the foglights are turned on). I DID NOT DO IT THAT WAY ON PURPOSE.

The only time I’ve ever really used them simultaneously when I’m driving in the middle of nowhere at night. I also used to do DoorDash as a side hustle, and this setup came in extremely handy when customers would forget to turn on their outside lights.

How am I harming anybody? The problem isn’t my truck. The problem is that Pennsylvania still hasn’t banned car inspections.
