You realize its not an either/or situation right? You can get reliable AND comfort. You can get reliable AND technology improvements.

You guys have been starving for so long that when Toyota tosses you scraps you eat it up. Whats worse, you brag that you wouldn't even want more if it was offered.

Maybe Consumer Reports likes to subjectively spin/amp up any consumer complaint from any of the large well established auto makers. Perhaps they see themselves as disruptors...that seems to be the "cool thing" to do in business. Seems a bit anti-business and anti-free market.

Opinion based surveys are like statistics, you can make any story fit the results. I would like to know the sample size of Taco owners versus the other owners surveyed.

Also people may be more inclined to be motivated to fill out a survey if they are unhappy.

All I know is that these trucks can get crazy expensive, so if it isn't perfect in someone's pre-conceived expectation, then even minor things are going to evoke complaints.

Higher price point = higher expectations

    :)

It's actually the first time I've been on in a while. I booted up my laptop and my browser was opened with TW in a tab. I decided to check it out. I haven't been on much since I sold my tonneau cover and SSP.

Real talk: This is a pretty great community...even if the 3rd gen is a dumpster fire of a truck. :crapstorm::cookiemonster:

I'd love to log in one day and see a thread about how they fixed all the problems, put in a drivetrain that doesn't suck, that it gets better gas mileage than a '98 RAM 1500, and added "luxuries" like adjustable seats.

The trucks look awesome! I dont fault any one of you guys that own one. I am glad to hear not everyone had the problems I did (sincerely). My experience soured me pretty badly towards Toyota and the Tacoma brand. I think these consumer reports are pretty accurate--which obviously ruffles feathers of Tacoma enthusiasts.

I'll probably jump on the forums from time to time to see whats going on. Enjoy your trucks. I enjoy my new ride.

Sounds like the worst truck ever. It's a truck with a bed AND a trunk. Wut?

"Innovation abounds in this suburbia-targeted pickup, proving that trucks can be both refined and versatile. The Ridgeline glides along, more akin to a sedan than its roughneck rivals. It also handles far better than any compact or full-sized pickup, and it shames all nondiesel trucks for fuel economy. The Ridgeline isn’t up for towing or off-road adventures, but this smartly designed truck more than makes up for that with other benefits. The lockable in-bed trunk and dual-mode tailgate add to its flexibility. Many truck buyers dream of a large, rugged behemoth, but the Ridgeline excels at the factors most noncommercial drivers with weekend warrior aspirations will appreciate."

I do not want my truck nice to the point where I am scared to do anything with the mother fucker for fear I will scratch it. I have shit in my garage that fits the bill if I want to be slathered in comfort and shit I hardly use and probably don't need. I want to be able to get in the bitch with animal blood, shit or both on my clothes, and not have a fucking meltdown worrying if it is gonna get on the truck. That's me. Your experience may vary.

There is nothing really untrue about this. I've heard all these complaints and more on this site for year. The suspension blows, and the tire on mine (Dunflop) were incredibly bad and contributed to the shitty unstable jiggly ride. Lots of understeer too. Some people just don't fit into the cab well. Some people don't need or want the ground clearance that the high floor provides. It is loud in the cabin because the sheetmetal is thin as fuck and there is no insulation. Throw in a strong cross wind and you get a free annoying kazoo next to your head!

Coming form a 1st gen, I was underwhelmed in many ways, but it has good power, tows decently, and is reliable.

You're going to be missed. I remember your posts from the past (due to your user name). I took a break from TW as well but I'm back. Still love my truck though.

You'll find the right truck if you look hard enough.

The Ridgeline is pretty nice for what it is. Decent power, comfortable ride, smooth transmission. It is just AWD and not meant for real off-road, but that meets the need of 90% of small truck owners. I think it is ugly, but it is a good vehicle. Just not for me.

I love Tacomas, have owned a few. I like the current gen., but it definitely does not meet the standards I have come to expect from a Tacoma. The transmission shifting hassle, underfilled fluids, axle issues, etc., are much worse than issues on past models. Not bad, just not up to the Toyota standards I expect. It does have the most comfortable seats and ride of any gen. though. I am still waiting before I buy my next one. And I do think government regulations CAFE are part of the problem, but quality control slippage, and trying to reduce costs expanding one engine across a broader platform is an issue too.

When you have aftermarket products like shiftsense, and they are overwhelmingly popular just to get a vehicle to shift the way it should, something is not right...

I would not give a lot of weight to any car review. Message boards don't always tell you when a car is good due to confirmation/purchase bias. But it is a good test when a vehicle has a lot of problems.

The Volt is not for me either, but it has been a good commuter option, and reliable for a Chevy. Chevy is losing money on these and they have said that from day one. If they discontinue, it is because they are too inefficient to build them for a profit.

That's Motor Trend, not CR. ;)

Motor Trend only gives the award to new or significantly redesigned vehicles that year. The Taco got the Truck of the Year award in 2005. It wasn't eligible to compete again until 2012 (the minor facelift).
