    I need some more low end TOURQE for my gen 1 Tacoma for going up this 5 mile hill everyday in Hawaii. What's the best way to get it??? I heard headers help some but what else???? Thanks for any info

    Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
    Short tube headers will increase low end torque for much less than a S/C. The gains will be much less than a S/C.

    Get rid of your straight pipes and put a muffler on for starters, preferably a quality one like aero turbine, magnaflow, borla, wicked flow etc

    Christian, you're a few years older than me. What do you do for a living that makes you the bank of knowledge on all things tacomas. I mean I understand my truck, but it seems like you know every pin in the wiring harness haha. Kinda freaks me out. :p

    yeah if you have straight pipes throw a muffler on there and it will help alot on the low end power. i lost alot of low end with i chopped my muffler off.

    yes as said belowV
    cheap mufflers are just as bad as straight pipes though, so if your going to do it go with a quality muffler.
    i went with a cheap muffler and it didnt help me out at all.

    To add to some statements, it is about the properly sized diameter tubing for the necessary need, there are diminishing returns if you go to far either way. "Properly" refers to keeping the exhaust gases' velocity high throughout the exhaust. That velocity reduces restriction of the gases themselves, and keeps scavenging up. To large diameter, and the exhaust along the wall of the tubing will slow down, while the gases in the middle stay high. That causes a restriction against itself. Intrinsic.

    To small diameter, and you create to much pressure in the exhaust. Increased pressure means higher temps, reduced ability to flow in-impeded, and causes increased back pressure at the exhaust ports on the heads.

    Thus, having it well balanced is best. Mandrel bends are always > crush/kink bends.
