I currently own a 1999 4Runner. It's pretty heavy on the aftermarket parts. The best is my supercharger. It's getting old though, and I was completely set on the new tacoma with the 3.5L.

As i was checking things out, I noticed something horrifying. No bolt on superchargers, no little turbo kits... What am i suppose to do? The raptor with the 3.5 twin turbo is looking really nice, but the truck is too big for an island. I couldn't imagine trying to off-road with the truck scraping bushes on both sides.

I couldn't find any third party blowers for the new-gen engine. Absolutely nothing! Even the 4.0 is really limited on parts. I feel like the 3.5 would be the better engine though as the whole RPM range is useable. The ECT buttion could help keep the rpm's high for more power, but i'm really hesitant buying a new car which is slower than my 17 year old one.

    So what's your recommendations?
    Headers?
    Cams?
    connecting rods?
    Driveline?
I'm lost-guide me to some information! thanks a lot!

Buying a third gen for power seems to be backwards thinking.

I'm not understanding the muh power, thing. Are you racing? Do you drive constantly flooring it? Are you towing? Power where for what?

My Sierra is a full second faster 0-60 than a Tacoma. That's why I would never buy one.

No headers on this one, its a pipe/s coming out of the side of the heads. I think if you had a few bucks to throw at a cam, and a tune you would see better numbers down low where trucks tend to run. Its kinda funny running around in my truck and shifting at 6000 rpms.

They don't need to complain about how shitty the new generation trucks are so it's pretty boring over there.

Thank you, and i get what you mean about the third gen, but second gen isn't much better either. I haven't found a supercharger from a third party considered reliable for the second gen.
That thought did cross my mind. The tacoma rival from gmc/chevy isn't doing better on the power aspect. Only more powerful truck i've looked at is ford, but those 150's are really big on overgrown dirt roads (common on an island).
I did a dyno test and broke 300. If i recall correctly i was under 300, so decided to redo headers/gaskets in order to allow more boost. With the re-tune and extra boost i could hit 300 at the wheels. When running that much psi the engine did ping a little, and smelled absolutely horrible because of the unburnt gas But when i don't hit peak power 4800RPM, the engine is still extremely lively.
Numbers are in HP as i'm pushing about 12 less for torque

What? Not sure what research you're doing..

Second gen has Magnuson superchargers readily available and they're the manufacturer of the previous TRD superchargers.

If you want a blower, get a second gen. Neither are going to be rockets, certainly not a third gen.

Easy, " no replacement for displacement". I wouldn't have bought a Tacoma if I didn't have the space restrictions.

It's not about racing. It's just me. Cars are my passion, and i drive for pure enjoyment. It's just hard to justify a new car which seems like it'll work really hard to get you going

I understand where OP is coming from... it's nice to have he power when you want it...

That being said, there is a trade off somewhere... it just what you're willing to take.
