    Ahhh gotcha...

Well, I can say I'm completely satisfied with my 2nd gens power for what it is... if that's worth anything lol

Every GM I've owned has been a great truck... 18k miles and I don't have shift issues, still original cps, all fluids were full from the factory, I get 21mpg with 430hp, plus all the higher quality interior finishes that Toyota is 5 years behind on. I've had 4 toyota trucks and GM makes a nicer truck.

lol is that horrifying? Also you seem to talk about a Raptor as though you'd consider if if you weren't on an island...this would leave me to believe you can spend between 30-60k (or whatever a raptor costs). Get a taco and then a Focus RS or something like that :p.

And there are many Tacos out there that can say the same. What cracks me up is how people talk about Toyota being 5 years behind, they always have been, they let others work out the problems and they use the proven stuff.

I can't afford the insurance rates for two cars.
I feel as if they stopped with TRD
It is horrifying pushing that much power in such an old car. Just waiting for the boom of death i'll eventually hear. I would love two cars, and could possibly pull it off, but I certainly wouldn't be able to pay for the insurance on two cars.

Some companies will offer multi car discounts, so it may not be as expensive as one might think.

I'm with OP. Waiting for URD to come out with a supercharger kit. In the meantime, buying other mods...love my Gen 3.

The reason (as my understanding goes) for no available blower in the 3rd gen is the simulated Atkinson-Cycle on the new engine (i.e. holding the valves open). The setup on the new 3.5 is marginally more efficient than the 2nd gen 4.0 liter V6, though it does not allow for the optional TRD supercharger that was available on the old model... You can still buy the blowers for the 2nd gen I believe.

OP i'm in the same boat.

with the block's design of a fixed exhaust outlet, you won't be able to flow big on this motor. Magnuson has replied to some TW user's inquiry that they are starting R&D for a SC on this motor... for what it's worth.

however, it has direct injection. for driveability i would like to see the DI show itself from lower in the rpm range, starting under 2k. DI makes the engine much more responsive. if i could just get the same response down low that is there up high already then i'll be happy enough. i actually looked into buying a Focus RS or something as well, but it's the insurance that's the dealbreaker for me also.

My insurance was more expensive when I only owned 1 vehicle. Usually insurance companies offer multi-car discounts because you're using both cars but less of the time.

Lol I was referring to you saying "It's horrifying that there are no bolt on superchargers" :p

And yeah I get that for insurance reasons.

You're insane. Nicer interiors. Yeah I'll ask my best friend thats a head mechanic and works at a GMC dealership. He changes complete dashes on GMC 1500's all the time due to them cracking across the top from being shit quality. Power seats that constantly fail, random wiring done at the factory because something during install got messed up, paint problems, whole engine change outs are frequent. I use to like GM stuff when I had my 02 Camargo z28 but anything coming out now from GM is complete shit, hands down cheap garbage.

Also the 3rd Gen power isn't bad folks. Yeah it makes it in higher rpm, makes plenty of torque down low to keep it moving. If yiu need more, press the gas pedal down a little further. Punch the gas and it's a rocket. The thing keeps creating power the higher and faster you go. Could it use a regear, yes that would help give it more umph lower but honestly it's not bad. Could it use more power from a supercharger, fuck yeah, I'll always smile at some Power adders for anything. I don't tow, if I did I would have gotten a Tundra. I wanted something narrow, off-road capable, new tech and something of quality, Tacoma fit the bill. Still smile when I walk up to it.

pretty much agree with all this. i have the MT with 4.3 rear gearing and it's ok, but, despite the torque, it does feel anemic under 3k. i don't need a lot of power, but i do want more motor response (as in more hp via direct injection) under 3k. then my smile when i walk up to it won't go away as i shift into 3rd.

Has there ever been a "fast" or powerful Toyota small pick-up. I recall them ALWAYS having modest power. This "turd" gen stuff is bullshit. People loved the 20R 22R and so on 4cyl trucks with very limited power. The 4 liter V6 with supercharger aside...Toyota small pickups have ALWAYS had modest power. The 3.5 actually has plenty of power for the chassis. Any more, and I think the rear suspension would need to change to prevent axle wrap.
