I looked through the forums and read some of those threads. They didn't look too productive so i was hopeful for a more successful thread.

The power is more for safety everyone. Many instances i need to rapidly accelerate to get out of a distracted drivers way. in this case is the tacoma adequate? I wasn't trying to
make people assume i wanted a truck which performed like a little import tuner sports car.

There is no tuner, turbo or supercharger out yet. That's why those threads turn into dumpster fires so quickly. First off asking that question offends the fanboys because it insinuates that just maybe the Tacoma is lacking. On top of that, it's a fairly common question that comes up so people get a kick out of seeing the repeat issues being brought up and it attracts the flamers.

Your best bet is to probably use the ECT button. Beyond that you may need to look at getting a different vehicle all together.

There aren't many other options for body on frame pickup trucks which aren't twice the size of my garage

Drive a 1st gen and you will notice very little bottom end power, mostly with the automatic. I had to rev the piss out of it and it would still lose speed on grades. the 3.5 will accelerate up grades towing a trailer.

unfortunately when someone releases a turbo or supercharger or even a way to boost power in these trucks I won't be willing to pay for it. Turbo or Supercharger upgrade would be what around 4k anyways. I'll pass.

They should've done a small TRD supercharger for the TRDBro and I'd have bought one, beings they are the same it wasn't worth the 6k more than my truck in my **opinion.

i'm surprised they didn't do that. it seems like a pretty reasonable sales idea. "why would people want a trd pro? more power of course. Just as the name toyota racing development suggests!"

You'll have to embrace the suck for a couple more years then get a Ranger when it comes out...otherwise the baby duramax in the Colorado and Canyon may get some decent tuning mods soon. Keep your eyes peeled elsewhere. Don't hold your breath on the Tacoma.

Yeah, I see those posts as well. I guess I'm coming from a different perspective. I have never owned a Tacoma before and I still haven't purchased my 3rd gen. So I don't have that history with the truck like you do, or like those who love theirs so much for that matter... I do notice that many of the people asking those questions are coming to the Taco from full size trucks or other vehicles that are built to perform differently than a Tacoma. I guess what I'm saying is it's hard to come to each new vehicle you buy with no previous expectations, but that is what you have to do, even if you have owned every previous version of that same model.

1st gen had a good bottom end power for what it was. It was a lightweight compact (not midsize pickup truck). My 2002 manual had no real passing power but I could scoot around town pretty well all day. Even got my Casita travel trailer moving pretty well from a dead stop too. Miss my gen 1.

Idk your financial situation, but I would've bought the third gen and kept that just for a keep sake.. If there was no rust, very clean.

I already had two vehicles at this point and decided I wanted a full sized. Lived in socal at the time in a beach city and thus had very little storage or parking space.

Never buy a Sierra or never buy a Tacoma? That is not a Sierra in your avatar. "one" is kinda vague, are you buying 2?

Makes sense, my yard looks like a use car lot almost. Living in an area where one can own 55 acres and houses are built out not up has it's advantages. lol

The first car i drove that did this to me was my dad's GMC envoy - drove me nuts.

I hate it on my lex and my taco. even my 2nd gen had it, but not as pronounced. I do find it very dangerous, especially when merging onto a busy highway and it takes a few seconds to do anything. Or making a left hard turn on a busy street...

It's amazing how cars change. I mean my throttle is a wire which pulls open a flap on the intake. Funny how things change so fast. I guess the bright side of the third gen is that it'll sound pretty cool when it revs with a flow master muffler :bananadance:
