hey everybody i got a 2011 tacoma trd sport and was wondering how to improve horsepower and torque. I researched online and found 2 main superchargers people were using the URD and the TRD. The TRD is more expensive and apparently produces less power but my main concern is durability and warranty. So which one is best, and is it even worth supercharging my truck.

also should i just buy something cheeper like an intake?

Im trying to get about 285-300 HP and 300-340 torque...
    Thx. Alex D

The TRD supercharger gets the car warranty if put in by the dealer.
If you want more power than that, you should probably look for a different vehicle, or own your own engine machine shop :)

Supercharger and a Bullydog tuner gets you from 240 hp to less than 300 hp. Only so much you can do with it, but you can spend a lot of cash and get a little. There are plenty of places out there that will take your money and give you little in return for it.

I look at it this way, back in the 70's a 4 cylinder had about 80hp, a V6 maybe 120hp, neither could get out of its own way. Engines have come a long way since them, I'm happy with it as is. If I want a hotrod, I buy or build a hotrod ... a Tacoma is not a hotrod.

Just out of interest do you have specific plans for the truck or is there a particular reason you're going for those numbers? I get it if you just more go...hell , I'm the same way.

It's bang for the buck ratio isn't that good in my estimation but, I think I'd go for the TuRD Supacharger (if I was looking for more in my former Taco). And here's why if it was me (of course it's not so take it for what it's worth). I'm guessing the Taco is your DD. If that's true, I'd want maximum reliability. Toyoda designed the S/C to be compatible with the truck you have...my concern would be adding too much and stressing the other components such as differentials & the transmission amongst other less costly parts. And without the TRD unit, it my not be covered by the manufacture even if it still is, let along the S/C itself.

What kind of budget are you looking at to get those numbers? All of the performance stuff worth doing has a price tag associated with it. Depending on how far you're willing or able to go, you could end up with a new intake, supercharger, tuner, headers, y-pipe and exhaust if your pockets are deep enough. URD also makes N/A kits for the 4.0L if you want power without a blower.

The TRD Supercharger alone is rated at 306hp. I am not sure what the bullydog will get you above that. The supercharged Tacoma that Bullydog tested with had a smaller pulley, fuel pump and a full exhaust. Since it is a canned tune, I am guessing about 10 more hp. Not worth the $900 IMO.

URD does not support 2011 Tacoma's. Their engine management system has not been updated to support the new PCM on the 2010 and later Tacoma's.

Today's V6's average around 300hp naturally aspirated. The fact that the Tacoma is only at 236hp shows its behind and we all know the Tacoma needs an update in the engine department. Hell, even full size V8 trucks get better gas mileage than our midsized Tacoma's.

Asking for a little more power doesn't mean he wants a hotrod. I think it's valid request based on where the industry is.
