If Toyota had offered a small displacement V8 with a Manual in the Tacoma I would have bought that over the 3.5.

My old truck was a whopping 119 hp. This current gen is 278! Your point is still invalid

edit - the v6 was only 150 hp and weighed in at 3880 lbs!

I had an F150 ecoboost. Talk about power.

Take the Tacoma for what it is. It's not a powerhouse. Not a gas-efficient fuel sipper. Not even a good family hauler (yes, I've got a DC). It's a fun play truck with great reliability, tons of aftermarket support and awesome resale value.

Mods: Is this still a Tacoma?
Trucks are made to haul/tow, move loads in the bed or off-road, non of which require speed out the dealership. Sounds like you needed a Raptor lol...

This engine doesn't have headers.. Just take a look next time. Ov Tune's Matt mentioned in that the Tacoma has a significantly restrictive exhaust assembly.

Now that the factory Turbo version has debuted, I think it's safe to assume that this engine platform was meant to have a modular turbo charger from the start- hence lack of headers.

I think that, with a URD down pipe + cat back + OVtune, this engine could easily hit 300HP or even 311HP.

That would be a nice bump, and you wouldn't have to spend $8K on a supercharger nor cut the engine life in half with a FI system.

I've got both on mine - the CAI definitely makes more noise when you step on it, but I'm not sure it really did much for daily driving. I installed the CAI about 10 months into driving it, and haven't really noticed a meaningful change. I ordered the Catback from the factory, so don't know life without it.

From the purely aesthetics standpoint, together they make the truck sound rather tough, but I think its the #MonsterHook on the back that gets people to back off (or the H&K and SpyderCo stickers...who knows).

Op it’s easy, (i have a 2016 sport) put it in sport mode and shift at 2800 to 3000 RPMs i do not baby my truck and when you drive it in sport mode it takes it out of the hurry up and get to 6th gear mode. And when your on the highway leave it in 5th gear unless your doing 75 or higher. Keep your RPMs at 2000ish and enjoy the ride. Your mpg will not suffer.

Have you seen the movie, The Martian? The part where he prepping to lift off in the MAV to leave Mars and has to loose a crap ton of weight. The seats, the control centers, comms, even the roof. Cut it all!!
