The main difference between a manifold and a header is back pressure. In a header, each cylinder gets to 'breathe out' all on its own, by its self. This is due to each cylinder having its own little exhaust pipe bolted up to it. Three individual pipes per side, 6 little pipes total. One for each cylinder. Now, all 6 pipes eventually meet up, but that's farther down the exhaust pipe and away from where other cylinders are trying to push exhaust out. On a manifold, each cylinder must 'breathe out' into the same pipe as 2 of its brothers. So 3 of your cylinders are all trying to push exhaust into the same pipe, very close together. This creates an issue of pressure. The more pressure you have effecting the ability of a cylinder to breathe out, from its brothers into the same pipe, the less effective you will be. The better a cylinder can exhaust, into its own header pipe, the happier your engine will be and the more power it will create. Look into your engine bay. You do not have 6 little pipes twisting around and dropping down under your truck. You have one. A manifold.

I could be wrong about this, but it looks like the manifold is integrated into the block or bottom-end. It appears that there is absolutely no way to ever put headers on this engine without a new bottom end.

This is a true statement. Headers on that engine aren't gonna happen

By far the best post ever. I’m going to do this and tell people I’ve got a V8 under the hood...on a Prius.

No, but you can put on aftermarket pipes that eliminate 2 or all 4 of the cats. URD makes em. Each head has one fairly large oval exhaust port. That's it.

Have a look at the diagram in post # 100. Part labelled "1". That bolts up to the head.

Why do so many people here waste their own time, and OP's, to tell him he's dumb for wanting to change his truck? It's not your truck, why can't you just ignore the threads that you don't want to help on? I'm just starting to feel sorry for some of these people though that just takes what the factory gives them. If that's all you want the vehicle for then great, but some want to customize and make the truck theirs.

Anyway OP since you want more power it's still done the same way as almost every other car. Get more air in and then get the air out faster. That means an intake (not much increase cause modern intakes are pretty good), a cat-back exhaust (again the same issue of not much increase), URD y-pipe minus 2 cats (unproven but gave great results on the 2nd gen), OVTune (sounds like great results), and then a supercharger or turbocharger is all that's left but no one is making a kit yet. There's gears, but those don't really "add" power, but they do potentially help with your torque. That's a different thread, however. Have fun with your truck! I'm waiting for the supercharger to come out cause it should just make a fun truck even more fun.

OVTune, Regear, stay away from large tires, buy a lamborghini.

Try them in that order until satisfied.

 Nope. A header is like a individual exhaust pipe for each cylinder. The way your engineis set up, each side of the engine dumps into a single outlet, with no way to split that up. But like @MOC221_ said, there are things you can still do to improve your power.

Not gonna happen on TW lol. Just ignore it, you'll be happier at the end of the day.

Agreed on making the truck "yours".

Pull the engine and install a LSX. Probably want to replace the transmission too.

Only $16,348 from Chevy! That's a steal of an upgrade.
