Ya, I'm guessing a few grand to regear.

Head over to the 4.88 and 5.29 mega threads. I'd just be regurgitating what I have learned from others. Learn straight from the sources over there. The long and short is that a re-gear will give your Taco mechanical advantage but at a cost. Depending on how aggressive you get on the re-gear, you will lose top end because your power is in the low end.

You are obviously very unhappy with towing with your truck. If you do mods like re gearing and others there are trade offs some positive some negative including the expense. Even after the mods it’s not going to be the tow vehicle you want. You have two choices, either live with what you got or get another truck that is better suited for what you tow and where you tow. Cut your losses, trade it for a more adequate tow vehicle.

Considering a crew cab 21 Sport Premium. Low miles, no accidents. Mint. Drove a 23 yesterday. Thing has wind noise off of mirror that I couldn't get out of my head. For 61 bones, the only thing I want whistling is my wife.

DM me if you want something that can tow. I have a 1979 Chevy C3500 I'll let go for NADA mid-book (30k). 454 4bbl, auto, dual rear wheel, reg cab, captains chairs and center console. You won't be bitching about tow capacity, you'll be bitching about gas mileage.
