You have to trust me, I work in an industry where these damn things fail all the time. It's not the physical led but the board it is soldered to. I have see more tail lights then I can recall where a bank is out and they continue to work normally.

I also work in a fleet of 400+ vehicles and we have had led markers, turn and tail and even interior dome lights, and even low beam headlights in transit buses since they came on the market. They have gotten better over the years and it is very rarely these days we see total led failures, mostly a few leds in a field will go out, but not enough to have to change them. Besides we pretty much have almost a lifetime warranty on the lights we buy. Just saying, but in reference to a brand new 16 truck failing, although possible like I said, its highly improbable IMO.

Here's the thing, the diode didn't fail in the le"D" the solder broke on the board in which they solder these surface mount LED's too....

so when someone might say "LED"s brake all the time, it may not be the diode that failed but some part of the mechanism fails hence "it broke" is a fair statement.

and I agree with @Wraith600 I've seen my fair share of "chinese" led bulbs failed right out of the box, (back when I got them from a friend who sold them for his company) After experiencing so much failure, I decided, rather than buy cheap led's for $1-$3, buy the nice ones for around $30 / set (turn signal / side marker and the like) I Have even had one of those fail on the socket part...so the LED is fine, but if the socket fails, the "led broke" is a fair statement to me.

Anywho, I'm back home, new headlight installed.

consider this, gentlemen, Every single Lexus produced today has HID and an LED DRL, they don't have problems right? ( of course I'm just trying to make an example without proof but you get the point) There's no feasible explanation that HID conversion in tacoma would be related to the DRL failure...if that were the case, the other 20 plus people on the group buy would be experiencing some sort of failure, AND Lexus (and other brands) wouldn't have it as a factory option.

Thoughts???? Am I being biased, am I being fair?

I really am on the fence about putting the HID kit back in only because I can't tell if I'm being rational in my thought process of the liklihood they caused the failure, or didn't have anything to do with it.

Silver 60, valid point. I should have been more clear, any part of the LED assembly that fails is a failure of the entire LED assembly. When I spoke of my experience with the LED's we have they are high end American made not the Chinese knock offs.
Ive had Chinese HIDs on my Harley and they failed after 1 year. Ive had 2 Infinitis with factory HIDs and never had an issue in over 10 years. I now have a Lexus with LEDs which look ok, but don't have the depth and brightness of an HID.
Ive been reading up on the HIDs here recently especially after viewing this thread. OEM HIDs are far superior than what people here are buying to convert their halogens, just look at all the warnings that the buld suppliers of High end HID replacement bulbs are saying. BTW, if you see Osram, Philips and Sylvania HID bulbs you can buy, they only come as replacements to oem HIDs. They don't sell kits, and a H11 was almost $300+ if you do your own conversion.
FWIW I inquired on an Osram site for a conversion and again they told me they don't have kits, BUT they sell a halogen bulb that is 5000 kelvin scale. I waiting to hear back on my request for matching hi beam and fog lights.

Good to see it was warranty / fixed. I am in the industry where I see the crap LED builds even if the physical LED on said board is the best. The assembly / board however, is not. I miss the good old days where solder was toxic and actually bonded and stuck. :)

Xenondepot. H11 LED headlight conversion kit. They use a copper braided wick system for the heat sink. No fan to get gummed up with dust. Super easy to install. Also wide angle H11 LED fog light conversion. Did all four lights in less than half an hour. (Unbolt the washer fluid reservoir and move it a bit for easier install) super happy with the systems. Less than $250 for everything you need.

I noticed. When my drl aren't on when I have the e brake on. Drop the brake and it lights up.I notice it at Super dark pitch night time. Got curious why it wasn't on when my truck is on.

what were people doing for their high beams to get a 5500k style of lighting to match the morimoto hids?

is there an option to do something with the H9s?

Connects to your original light output on whatever side you have it nearby. Tape off your second original light connector after that since it will still be outputting a voltage.

I have seen some places advertise H8,H9,H11 in the same group like they are interchangable. But Im not sure what to believe. Everyone has told me the h9 is a bastard bulb and they tell me to go halogen ir led for that, im not convinced everything will match.

HD relay I mounted on the battery bracket bolt (bent the bracket at a 90), and ground mounted off the negative terminal split that goes to the body.

The relay's mounting hole I received it too small for the battery bracket. I guess I'll have to use some double-sided tape or something.
