Morimoto Elite HID System and LED Fogs for your '16+ Tacoma

Same thing mine was doing. Found bad terminals where bulb harness attaches to ignitor. Mine got hot enough to melt

 

I did hear that the 5500k are close to the LED DRLs. These look good though. but the more and more I see with people having problems with these lights the more hesitant I get to buying them...

 

What would insure they don't melt again though? That would bug me.

 

Did you have parts replaced?

 

I just figured out the issue and ordered parts this morning. For now Halogen is in the other side. see post 644

 

Check to make sure you didn't bend a terminal - fairly easy. You can also cut those extra wires and grommets off of the headlight bulb harnesses. They are not needed for this configuration. What bulbs did you order? On my 4500k bulbs, the connectors at the bulbs were finicky. Retrace everything - disconnect, check each connector and reinsert. Verify your connection to the OEM headlamp harness. Check that ground connection - make sure it's tight. I actually attached mine to the body side ground next to the battery. The attachment point is shown in one of your pictures. You mounted the relays the same as me on the battery hold down which is good.

Take a look at this site, they have German Philips and Osrams. They even have a H11 Halogen that is 6000 color, if youre looking for something that may be better. http://www.powerbulbs.com The product comes from Europe thru New Yawk I think. The more I read I may go wiith these halogen with a LED H9 (they say H9 is a bastard size bulb) for the high beams for the color match.

The higher-density gaskets are on order still. That is the only *possible* reason for the shaking in our testing here with a 2016 headlight. Nothing has changed.

 

So the issue is only on incredibly rough roads?

I don't see what the issue is then--anything will be affected by that. It could be the projectors in the headlight shaking, the headlights on the truck shaking, etc.

As I mentioned, grommets have been ordered. This is not a hazardous issue, just a minor annoyance for some over very rough terrain, which isn't even the common use of these parts.

 

If anyone else has relevant questions or info, feel free to post up. We're slowing down slightly enough that I can come in before we open and check messages a bit more than in the previous weeks during peak season.

If you're not satisfied with these bulbs or systems, let us know first and we'll accept them back for a full refund if they're in mint condition. It's that simple.

We've sold somewhere in the range of 5,000 XB H11 bulbs and the only issues of shaking reported are on this forum with this truck.

 

So is it the gaskets fault?

Or the Tacomas fault?

 

There's no way to know really. We've got gaskets on the way to see if that fixes the issue. The word "possible" was left out from the first quote.

 

I have the 65k bulb with the 50w ballast (black wires in the harness)and fogs from trs not on group buy discount for a reference point to others.

glad you guys are busy, these forums are basically a live chat. a wealth of info and knowledgeable people that could probably help you sort issues out, at your leisure.

i don't notice bounce on rough terrain/offroad, although it is likely there. hard to tell when the whole truck is bouncing all over the place over ruts and rocks. interstate and highway travel is where i have put almost 16k miles on the truck as of today. nearly all of it with your lighting package. that isn't very rough terrain. certain kinds of bumps/pot holes produce an irritating amount of bounce. enough to drive me insane? that is debatable. would i go back to stock to rid myself of the bounce? no. these lights and their lumens have helped me to avoid successfully (at least so far) many possible deer collisions, road debris, and extremely drugged up pedestrian idiots in kentucky doing that weird, stanky leg hobble next to the white line that only true intoxication provokes. thank you for that.

i'm sure it is frustrating dealing with a problem that threatens your busiest time in existence, and that reasonable amounts of income for your company could be threatened by that. just don't pull a voodoo and blame the customers or the roads they travel, then start giving away free bottle openers or promises of magical grommets. all it really takes is a few people with alternate lighting solutions that they have implicated with positive results, and the crowd follows.

ps. side notes really: i really wish you would have included a little allen wrench that fit the bolts to remove the orange mounting bracket in the kit for the people who ordered the carbon fiber brackets for extra lumens like i did. also, a few packets of electrical connector grease might have significantly reduced the amount of people suffering from bad connections. my drivers side has been finicky, not igniting maybe 30 times out of all that driving. nickel and dime stuff, not a big deal. I know you offer refunds on mint condition returns, but i never return stuff. i view loss of money/ irritation as a lesson as to where i spend it the next time. when this system burns up in the next 3 to 5 years i hope that you guys get the bugs worked out.

 

I wish I knew what female terminals were used. I would just repin everything with factory parts at work

 

Please let us know when the new gaskets be available, and how you plan on exchanging the gaskets for those who have the bouncing issues.

 

We won't need to exchange them out. The more dense gaskets will simply be mailed to those experiencing the issues.

 

We have test-fitted the bulbs in the 2016 headlight. It is by no means slack, so it does take considerable force for them to be loose in the OEM projector, in our findings.

 

Do I need to purchase the "standalone canbus harness" option for the XB35s to avoid bulb out error messages on the dash?

From MorimotoHID's website - Canbus Compatible: The optional Standalone Canbus harness substitute is recommended for vehicles that display "bulb out" error messsages. They contain a series of capacitors and resistors to trick the car into thinking nothing has changed and help you avoid annoying lamp-out warnings on the dash.
