    Hi All,

Just bought a 2016+ Morimoto HID kit for my 2019 Tacoma and I am having some issues.
Got everything installed easily but on startup only one or the other or neither lights turn on. Checked grounding, made sure everything was plugged in and it was receiving power and its all set up correctly...but still nothing. I played with the grounding and got them both to ignite but once I turn off the truck and on again, only one ignites. Gave the kit a dedicated grounding spot in the 2 threaded holes about 7 inches behind the battery on the chassis instead of having it piggyback off the ground and it still yeilds the same results...

Has anyone had an issue like this? Im ripping my hair out trying to figure out how to get this to work.
    All feedback is beyond appreciated.

Not sure if this is possible with the morimoto kit, but with my ddm kit the plug that you plug your factory headlight harness into is reversible, so you can reverse the polarity. Check and see if thats a option on yours, perhaps that could be the issue.

Tried that. Still nothing. Ended up calling theretrofitsource.com where I bought the kit and they said they may have gotten a “bad batch” of igniters and they’re shipping out replacements to see if that’ll do the trick. Hopefully. I’ll keep the thread updated when they come In.

    Thanks for the input!

I had the exact same issue and they gave me a prepaid label to send it back; upon inspection they said they fixed my kit and it’s on its way back to me. Will report here what I found. I’m not sure what the issue was, I felt that it has something to do with the harness not mating correctly to the oem connector or possibly the igniters

Yeah I was thinking it was a harness issue as well but the guy on the phone was pretty adamant about it being an igniter issue. Let me know how your lights come out! I can’t stand the halogen bulbs haha

are they replacing yours? I will post here as soon as i get the replacement back. for what it's worth, i had a hard time connecting the harness to my factory connection as it didn't lock in place.

I noticed the exact same thing with the oem input!!
I think if the replacement igniters don’t work they’ll go to that option. They were kind of giving me the run around of “try this and try this and try this” and then I eventually called them and a guy just offered to send out the igniters.
I’ll update if that does the trick! They should be coming in Monday...

Lolll, they told me to watch the troubleshooting video. None of that matters because either one side doesn’t work or they both don’t work or they work and the next time I start my car another one doesn’t work.

I’m thinking it’s the harness, it just doesn’t have a strong enough connection to power it correctly

Do you have the Auto-on lights??

If so, turn them off and always turn your lights on manually after you start the vehicle, not before.

HIDs require a full 12v on power up to start effectively. When the car starts, the voltage drops slightly. That drop causes an interruption in the ballast which causes the lights to either not turn on, or turn only one on.

With HIDs using auto light futures in vehicles. Its always best to turn the vehicle on with the lights off. Then turn the lights on after start up

The funny thing is, TRS and Morimoto know all about this issue, yet still fail to inform people about it

I don’t use the auto on feature, I use the “off to headlights on, which one isn’t working?” feature

Hahaha yup they originally told me to look at the troubleshooting guide in the directions (which I already had) and then told me to check out the videos. I just want them to work lolol

YES!! Exactly. Why didn’t they send out an email to the past X amount of orders and say like “hey you may be having issues. Reach out if so”
But no, they make me rip my hair out trying to figure it out myself :annoyed:

No. I always manually enable the lights. But that’s a good thought. Never occurred to me

Update.. got the new igniters in and turn on the lights annnnnd... nothing. Try a second time turning on the lights and the divers side ignites.. third time and they both go on... lol I’m just feeling defeated at this point.

Gonna call tomorrow and see if they can swap out the kit for a new one or just give me my money back.

damn, that's terrible news... I just received confirmation of my order being shipped back to me; it looks like they may have replaced a component or two, but for the most part they are shipping me my old ballasts and bulbs back.. i'll update here when I receive it. Please let us know what TRS says when you call them tomorrow, good luck!

Spoke with TRS. They’re sending out another pair of igniters and a new relay harness...lol

If things still aren’t working after this, I’m just gonna get my money back and buy the Morimoto LEDs. Plug & play.

Funny part is that in order to send out a new relay, I had to snip apart the current one and send pictures. Felt weird cutting it but I did

So I received my replacement kit today which is my old kit with maybe a new connector for the vehicle connection? I noticed that the adapter and the harness itself won't lock into the vehicle connection so I went and purchased a new harness that will fit correctly and spliced it into their relay. Everything worked the first time; turned the car off and tried it again and only one headlight works. F$##@@#(I*@#( i emailed them; let's see what they say this time

Yeah screw that. If I get my new harness and it’s not working I’m getting my money back and throwing that sh*t off a cliff.
