To their credit, the one is free, to replace the damaged wire unit, which still functions. The second one is discounted over 70%

However I'm not sure this will fix my issues. I'll be washing my truck down with the stock stuff again tomorrow

doesnt matter. the amount of crap the product they sold you has caused in your truck. They should give you anything you want to make up for it. not charge any amount like some sleazy salesman. honestly if it was me, I would throw their stuff in the trash. Demand a refund and if they didnt just post everywhere as to what kind of problems their product has caused you after all over forums and social media I am sure they would change their tune

It's not the open pass plug. I disconnected it from the bulb and hit it full force directly. On and off, no issues

decided to try the water torture test again. Prior to the video I unplugged the factory bulb and hit the plug straight on with jet. Nothing. Didn't even dry it out and replugged it. Nothing.

    Then I did this.

*Note, before the internet shit storm happens: this is not my normal behavior towards my truck and I don't go around spraying stuff directly or take the engine cover off. This was simply to see if anything would cause issues since it's usually injector codes that pop.*

OK. Sweet mother of a blessed horny toad. I think we can say the engine bay is pretty protected from water spray.

I have some splatter in my bay and was not wild about spraying it down. I guess I'll be OK.

You NEED to change the thread title to "Aftermarket HID bulbs disable truck when wet" or something like that.

It wasn't a "crappy" or cheap kit, so let's not throw that idea out there. I still have to figure out of it was the HIDs or LEDs.

However, let's not forget there's STILL dirt getting into the fuel tank, so that's a secondary issue to bring to light after all this.

Well, I'll be doing my TRS retrofit one of these days (box of retro shit sitting in the garage for like a year and a half now, I know I'm lazy), this makes me fuckin nervous to do it lol. No bullshit, I hope to god its just a one off from a third gen lol, seeing as how there are easily thousands of TRS lights out there with zero issues

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.

The dirt in the tank is easy to diagnose, have you ever seen how they fill the tanks at the gas stations? The brush the lid off and then open the tank on the ground, stick the hose that's been hanging on the outside of the truck into the hole, then attach the hose to the trailer to drop fuel. They finish dropping the fuels and let the hose just air dry, put it back on the outside of the truck, so if it's dusty all that dust clings to the inside of the hose, just waiting to be deposited in the next tank. Really easy to see how contamination occurs. That's why there is a need for fuel filters, so that contaminated fuel gets cleaned before getting to anything important. Every single gas tank I've seen inside has some type of dirt or rust or crap. Every single tank.

So it's just convient that the terrain I drive through, but not necessarily fuel up at end up in my tank in large enough quantities to "clog up the filter" or last time, "got past the filter and clogged injectors" I didn't fuel up at all during my 200 miles of dirt driving. I gassed up prior to hitting the trails and then fueled up off a highway afterwards

I don't believe the techs and dealer about dirt being a problem. There are a ton of third generations that have been used for thousands and thousands of miles off road. Yours is the only one that had dirt and sand sneak into the system? Impossible.

My theory is simply that the techs working on your truck had no idea what was wrong so they pointed fingers at a likely explanation, then tore down your truck as if that explanation was the problem when in fact it was not.

My thoughts exactly. Which tells me you must be a pretty smart guy. Or we're both stupid. Best not to ask my wife which one.

Well if nothing else comes of this...

Atleast we know our engines are ok being washed off. And that we need to have any aftermarket electrical add ones fully isolated...

Which I thought the relays and such would of done.

Oh well. Live and learn right? I'm going to reposition my relays, completely seal all the connectors, etc and give it a try. I also want to put the old high beams in with the bad wire to see if they were the issue or not.

Got some playing to do... According to the dealer if the problem comes back all they had to do was unplug the lights ans ot went away.

Maybe I can begin to trust my truck again....

@VolcomTacoma when we going to Pismo?
