awesome I think im going for it, I noticed on the Morimoto website it says they're on preorder but at the retrofit source says they're in stock, are the ones on the Morimoto website a new updated version? They're about $350 more on the Morimoto website as well.

Does anyone know if these headlights have been compared to the 2020 OEM LEDs performance wise?

I have had mine in for about 6 months with no complaints. They are perfectly paired with Baja squadron wide corner amber fogs. The lights are aimed a little low in this photo as I haven't adjusted them since I lifted the truck.

I'd love to get an answer to this question too. Maybe we need to ask in the OEM LED headlight thread.

Hey Stew! Thanks for sharing this review and all the other info that’s been provided here.

Couple questions if you don’t mind.

    1. How do these Morimotos compare/stand up to the AlphaRex?
    2. I run a 55w morimoto HID kit in my stock headlights. Are either of these going to be as bright and functional?
I realize these are LED and the life is obviously way longer than any HID. I just love the look and style of both. Love to have whichever is better but don’t want to downgrade tremendously from my HID.

I bought these and they look amazing, especially the DRLs

    BUT

they tend to turn on by themselves when my truck is not running. They stay on for 5-10 minutes at a time and light up the whole neighborhood at night smh...

    Anyone else have this issue???
    I have a sr5

The headlights themselves do not have the ability to do that, they cannot control or activate power systems in your truck. That is a fault of your trucks headlight circuit and sounds like a possibly faulty headlight relay or switch.

Dude in the other thread said it is a common issue and happens all the time

    How confident are you?

Reminder I have the sr5 so its wired differently

The headlights plug into the OEM connectors, using power from the OEM headlight circuit. If that circuit is not powered, which is controlled by the OEM switch and relays, then the headlight has no power. Doesn't matter what the headlight does, without power controlled by the OEM circuit, it cannot turn on. Now if there is something with the DRL I'm missing that requires custom wiring (not plug and play) on non-DRL trucks, that could be a different story.

Yeah, its a different story, thanks anyways

Any other sr5s have the morimoto DRL switch on by themselves?

In that case, is there a DRL relay in your setup? Could be faulty which would cause the behavior you speak of. Morimoto relays are not great.

The morimoto DRLs are always on with sr5s even when lights are switched to off. I didnt do the wiring I paid to have it done.

I hear the ecu can cause the lights to turn on.

I appreciate your desire to help but maybe someone else has experience with this

The DRL harness for the SR5 uses a fuse tap to supply ignition power from and ecu controlled fuse. Problem is that it powers up occasionally with the truck off. The solution would be to find another power source that’s actually just controlled by the ignition. Unfortunately I don’t know where to get that under the hood.

Thank you, this is basically what i heard elsewhere, I just wanted someone else to confirm.

It doesn't seem to be causing any harm at all to the truck... i just can't park it facing any neighbor's windows at night lmao

Let me reiterate... these lights are BRIGHT- the first time it came on at night i thought aliens were outside my house

Anyone experiencing any flickering with the DRLs? Mine started doing it pretty bad recently. Very frustrating...
