so I got my Morimoto fogs the other day and installed them. aligned them with how my factory fogs were. (usable light output on the ground is right at the edge of my hood) plugged everything in and checked they work. Tonight I went out to check the output and I'm a little disappointed. it doesn't seem like it's the 1200 lumens each as advertised. Now I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my lights.
I also get a weird light casting right in front of the truck that stops, and then the rest of the output goes ahead.

Pretty sure I didn't install them upside down, the Morimoto letters are on top and not upside down.

Anyone have a similar experience? Do I have them aimed wrong?

pictures attached, I had my camera settings to get the picture as close to what I was seeing with my own eyes

Camera settings can significantly alter what the photo of the light output actually shows, so it is hard to say based on your photos without a side-by-side comparison in the same photo for a baseline. The TRS Morimotos produces about 30% more lumens than stock, but when I have hit them with a lux meter they are definitely more focused and brighter than their lumen output would imply, with outstanding performance though definitely a more narrowly focused beam than stock.

fog lights project most of the light on the ground in front of the truck. most people think that when they install Morimoto fogs they are getting more light down road but aren't/wont. you would need to get Driving type beams instead of fogs if you want more down road illumination, if your looking for Driving beam in the stock Toyota fog holes you might want to check out PIAA Website they offered model 530 LED in driving light beam for the 2nd GEN Tacoma, I don't know if will fit the 3rd GEN holes tho. Looking at your pictures I wouldn't be thrilled either by the output of the Morimotos, I heard this about them from others who have them.

I wasn't thrilled with them either and sold them.

ive heard this from quite a few people, the OPs pics look pretty weak really, should just leave the stock fogs on for that illumination

Even the H10 halogens suck on these trucks. Not sure why a company can't make a housing or direct fit LED that works right and puts out more light.

I had the Rigid DOT duallys....only problem was with them and the brackets, they had no adjustments! WTF Rigid? But they were really nice and bright...but also a little too blue.

maybe I just fell for the hype. Don't get me wrong, they look great. other people's pictures made them look a lot brighter than they really are. Oh well. at least i got these on discount thanks to Amazon

Pictures can be deceiving. They are brighter than stock.

If you are looking to keep the stock beam pattern but significantly up the output, I suggest this:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-ultimate-foglight-upgrade-not-led-or-hid.435419/

If you have H10s (vs H11s) there is a similar build possible.

the LED light makes them look good and modern, but their performance as far as light projected is a disappointment from what I hear from some people I know who bought them, they thought they were going to get better performance as far as light down/on road based on the Morimoto brand name , the person I know replaced them with 530 Drive beam from PIAA in a 2nd gen stock fog location these are better projecting light and are also LED and have custom housing/reflectors to give good cutoff and focused light.

Made by Koito. H3 bulb. I always find them at the junkyard. Have at least 3 sets.

I'm not sure, maybe if you gutted them and took out just the projector bowl it might fit. I have a custom bumper so I don't need it to fit anywhere.

They're fog lights, not driving lights. They should be shallow in throw but wide in output. Sorry if something else was expected! :(
