    Why do you say that?

    I would say that both should catch stuff. That blue one looks like it might be a pain to drain and keep clean. For sure, you'll want to upgrade the hoses that come with this things. Use some 3/8" fuel line if you can.

    Here is the one I run. Looks to be the same one @ControlCar posted earlier. Works well. The hardest part was figuring out how/where to mount it so the hoses were reasonable.

    Read up on Blowby. Pumping oil out of a crankcase breather to the point where it needs emptied every oil change is sign of excessive crankcase pressure, IMO the motor should have the PVC valve checked and barring a problem there a leakdown test done. Some 3rd gens have had the issue early on and seem more prone to pushing oil out of the CC breather due to it's location but in the earlier models it's typically indictive of a bad PCV or worn components and isn't unusual on a higher mileage motor that gets called to put out the majority of it's hp every time it's driven (read 4cyl) It's been discussed here before. Doesn't mean the motor is going to blow up on you, it'd probably run a long time like that but there's issues if you need to empty a catch can that often. I will concede that under certain circumstances (excessive angles when 4wheeling) can also cause oil to enter the breather system.

    I think there is a misconception here on whether this is a need or a want. I want to know what the catch can is catching. Once I know that, I might as well empty it. But I certainly don't need to if I don't want to. I suppose it would eventually get full but that would take at least 10 or more oil changes to get near to that point. The amount of crap being captured is very small.

    I realize that not everyone doing this is going to have the same experience. And not all high mileage (without defining what that actually is) engines are going to be the same. FWIW, the Blackstone lab report indicates I have a very healthy 3.4L even though it has forced induction with more than 250K miles.

    Here’s my ‘excuse’
    -to protect my investment of 10 freakin cans of brake cleaner I used to clean the carbon from intake and plenum!!!!
    (There is no argument that intake air will be cleaner as filtered by OCC)
    -had that cheapo red OCC laying around garage for 1yr or so

    Is it necessary, well that's debatable BUT every engine I have torn down, cleaned and put back together I have always gone overboard and put a little something extra to help protect them. Besides, I love shiny things in an engine bay
