I'll be the dissenter. After suffering through a set of Michelin Pilots you couldn't pay me to put another Michelin tire on any of my vehicles ever again.

That is not the classic “Defender LTX” that so many swear by. I’m sure it’s a fine tire nonetheless. Michelin doesn’t make any crappy tires that I am aware of. Still, if you want the one people rave on about, you want the Defender LTX M/S

Probably just a special for Costco. Spend the cash... get the LTX and never look back.

I had the ltx on my gen 1 wore like iron. In the extreme cold and ice they are hard and not as good as one would think for winter use had 45000 on them and still half the usable tread was left. Just not good for me in the winter. I will say they were quite, nice ride and good on wet roads.

Yeah I’m shocked by these tires....my son has Duratracs on his Tacoma (1st Gen) and we are both in a lot of mud and muck, needing 4WD...the Michelin tires perform wonderfully and obviously on the road they far outperform the Duratracs. They are perfect for my needs....and honestly I’m in a LOT of situations (daily) where 4WD is needed. I also drive about 700-1000 miles a week on the highway/main roads.

That is the Costco private line. Essentially the same tire as the LTX M/S, but the X A/S is exclusive to Costco. You will notice the tire is similar and honestly you won't notice a difference between them, but if you have an issue, you have to deal with Costco. Not a huge deal, but that is the trade off for the lower price.

Curious how old were the tires since, tires will loose their softness/pliability as they age and therefore lose some of their grip.

Never experienced their car/truck tires. But damn do they make some great motorcycle tires. But good to know that the quality doesn’t transfer to their other tires.

EDIT: and I’m talking about their pilot power 2cts. You’d think their pilots would be their good line of tires for both motos and 4 wheel vehicles.

I bought a used set of OEM offroad wheels and plan to buy Michelin DefenderLTX for a street tire set to throw on the truck for long road trips. I have the Revo 3 AT tires on the black SR5 wheels which I like, quiet on the road and grippy off road. This gives me options.

it’s just a model made specifically for Costco and will be every bit as good as the defenders. Maybe a longer warranty as an incentive to buy through Costco.

I’ve owned the old m/s2. Loved them. Then tried the a/t2 and found they lacked everything that makes the m/S2 amazing. They were louder. Pretty significant road humm compared to the ms2. Mediocre wet traction. Sub-par ice traction. Next I went back to the defender (m/s style) and love them.

Michelin defenders are the best tire for most trucks on the road and mine perform great for most backcountry stuff. I got the ten ply (load rated E) and they’re tougher than nails but still incredibly comfortable to drive on.

    Michelin Commander II or III
I think the Commander II is being or has been replaced with Commander III.

The car was left running, the driver's door open, and gear on P while I closed the gate. I attempted to turn key off while standing outside the car then the car started moving FORWARD due to the slightly sloping driveway. I was unable to get into the car to press the brake. The car travelled about 6 feet crashing into the gate post causing damages Toyota Collision Center estimates at over $3,900. After crashing into the gate post the car was still running with gear not on P or R but in-between. I got into the car move the gear to R, drove back, put the gear on P, and turn the key off.
