What's a safe way to Jack up a Tacoma to do basic maintenance like oil changes and trans fluid drain and fills? Rhino ramps work but I'm looking for a solution that has an even smaller footprint. Severely limited in space. I was thinking maybe a really strong bottle jack that could fit in one of the storage compartments in the back seat area and some jack stands. Thoughts?

I have a standard bottle jack for offroading, but honestly if you want a small bottle jack... you already have one in your rear cubby.

I haven’t needed a jack to do any fluid changes on my 2017 4Runner, and the Taco has even more ground clearance (haven’t changed any fluids myself yet on the Taco because it’s still under Toyota’s free 2 year maintenance). But there’s plenty of room under there to get to all the drain plugs and filter and everything without jacking it up (unless perhaps you’re a really really big guy). The bottle jack that came with your truck and 1 jack stand is all you’d need to rotate your tires.

Unless you’re a big dude you can do all that work without jacking up the truck at all.

Bottle jack. Ramps. But tbh, most that stuff can be done without it, like oil changes.

Also, if you are thinking a smaller footprint means safer, then you are not doing it right. If you jack your vehicle up and get under it, you need jack stands and tire chocks. Tire chocks when using ramps too.

I like the curb idea. I use something similar. I would never get under a vehicle with just a jack (big or small) I don’t even like ramps unless they are really heavy duty. Had a friend many years ago who’s father jacked up the car for a quick look and it was his last look. Terrible but true. I sprayed crc on the undercarriage during the fall and I just crawled under with all 4 wheels firmly on the ground, wheels chucked. Don’t be that guy
