Question: what kinds of things do you tweak going from versions like 2.0 to 6.0? How often do these tweaks occur? Like once/yr, etc?

If someone were to buy the KD max 6.0 tune, and then next year the 7.0 comes out, what do they do?

@Edge48 is the man! Been tuning my Taco for a few months now, super knowledgeable, prompt and professional.

 

The tuning software is available, he’s just talking about an update to it. No reason wait!

 

nah for me it’s not. My Taco is brand new built in 05/21 and apparently VFTuner needs an update in order to be able to load the tune to mine. Shouldn’t be very long tho I don’t think, maybe another couple weeks it seems

 

Still have appointments available this week for any interested! For all our new 2021 ECUs(build date 4/21 and later), we should be seeing support in the next couple days so we still may be able to schedule something. Let me know!

 

I'm interested in getting this done. Just picked up an '18 3.5L TRDOR auto last week. Still need to check first if I have the latest TSB update (as I've read in several places regarding the Tacomas). I've found the ECU TSB Update thread and wondering if Earnhardt Superstition Springs will do it...I don't see them in either side of the friendly/unfriendly list on the map. Ironically, I purchased from Right Toyota and they look to be on the friendly list. If only I had known that day to ask...lol

I'm in the East valley as well (AJ) so meeting up would be easy I think.

 

I’m pretty sure Eddie can update your ECU as well, at the same time before flashing the tune. Solid guy, knows his shit!

He tuned my truck for a while until I bought the VF Tuner software and cable, and then made sure I was 100% confident on how to do it myself.

Hey dude! I do actually update to the latest TSB before every tune so no need to worry about going through a dealership to do it. I got my '20 OR from Right Toyota last year in September too!

Good meeting you today @Edge48...don't know why I didn't have my truck tuned sooner!

 

I know others say the same thing about getting a tune...but this IS a totally different truck now. I love that I can use cruise on mountainous hills and it's not dropping into and over revving into 2nd, and also doesn't upshift at the worst times. I know the 3.5s naturally more powerfull up top, but holy cow, once you get her to 4k, and touch the floor she goes like a hell hound.

I just got a tune done by @Edge48, the mid range version, on my 2021

Only about 40 miles into it so far, already about 0.4mpg above what I tend to average in the city. The power is noticeably better, and so you want to be stomping your gas pedal. But when I’m not giving it the beans, gas mileage is improved

may post another update when I come up on 500 miles with the tune. So far really liking it

 

Seriously, if you're on the fence on whether to have this tune done, just do it...you won't regret it...this is how the truck should've been from the factory, and gets better each time I drive it!

And @Edge48 is a solid dude...he even buys you lunch and beers!

So I heard something about 3rd gens not liking AGM batteries but this tune potentially correcting the function of the smart alternator to work correctly with them. Is that something built into every version of the tune or is that something that needs to be added individually?

 

It's not built in, but it is an adjustment we can make to any tune. Basically we just adjust the output a bit higher. I forget exactly who it was, but we use some specific values, known to play nice and fix the issue of diminished output, from one of the tuning threads here on TW.
