I'd prefer mechanical fuel injection, wouldn't you? Why not if so?

Ah man, I really didn't want to want to mod anything. Maybe i can hate on the old F-100 mirrors enough to talk myself out of wanting those. :)

Exactly! I love the narrow width of my '04. Basic comforts like power locks, windows and mirrors and thats it. Simple enough. I like a J shift transfer case.

That narrow width has allowed me to get into places I wouldn't even consider with a wider truck. I also drove through a few spots where the road on the side of the mountain had collapsed down the side. I wouldn't have tried it with a bigger pickup. (I really shouldn't have tried it at all....)

All of the infotainment shit and push button everything has got to go. Give me a regular key and an AM/FM with a USB and that's all I want. My wife's 13' Kia with NAV and touch screen has not aged well. Software is out of date, half the buttons on the right side used for NAV and settings are no longer working. I want to rip that shit out so badly...

    Mechanical? You mean carburetors?

I prefer the more efficient and reliable EFI systems.

    no, mechanical fuel injection.
Examples were found on mid 1950's Chevrolets and almost all pre-emission era diesel engines like the single rail Cummins.
It doesn't have to be diesel to be mechanical F.I.
I say this because after having a tractor flood in a hurricane (Ike) my tractor lost ALL copper material to salt water. The starter had to be rewound at pretty good cost. Had it contained ANY electronics, it would have been junk.
The mech. FI box just needed to have it's oil changed.

edit: As far as carbs go, yes emissions carbs were works of.....getting by. A decent old Holley is fine just by me EXCEPT now we have to burn alcohol. Alcohol and carbs don't mix.
Oh well, We missed out on Natgas and electric is coming soon. Too late to lament what could have been.

Wait, now you're blowing my mind.

An '82 dash will fit in a first gen Taco?
    James, that can't be right?

edit: Or do you mean 'Will fit in the back seat"?

    Tractors =/= pickup trucks

For me, the benefits of efficiency and reliability outweigh the costs of potential serviceability in the unlikely event of a hurricane, or forgetting you parked your truck on the beach at low tide. Plus, that's why we have insurance...

Besides, an ECU, injectors, throttle body, etc... for a Tacoma only cost a few hundred bucks each, anyway. With all the other other stuff that gets ruined by salt, that is really the least of your worries, and isn't going to change the fact the truck will get totaled by insurance.

Crap, I just re-read your post. you said the pre-2003's were the cable TBs, then said the younger ones and the good ones. I misread that as saying the older ones were better.

More like we didn't want electronic F.I. because it introduced another level of complexity to something that was more akin to 'simple as a hammer'. i fixed a mechanical F.I. after flooding by changing it's oil, simple....it's not about tractors.
Insurance didn't cover it either. Flood insurance is a fools game much like full coverage on an old truck.

back to really whichever look you like best, they're really all the same.

I'm still blown away that the size of a taco. isn't bigger than a mini truck. '

You sure this isn't just 4Runners from when they changed to Taco sized?
I'm not familiar with their Gens. (and never have understood why they didn't keep the same schedule as trucks)
