Most "sellable" model? Does it matter?

Your saying that a 2 year 'bridge truck' is going to cost you a lot of money.

This market of stupid used sales wont hold forever.

Rising fuel costs will soften truck sales

If 24 is your real goal, I'd suggest an econo box in the 70k mi range for that 2 yrs.

If you are cash flush, and secure you will be in '24 too, stimulate the economy!

If you go with a truck today, pick one you'd be willing to keep long term. In case the whole '24 plan falters

I can save about 5-7 grand on going with a TRD sport (tech but not nav), vs a Limited.

Nope. They are all equally popular.
Bone stock is more popular than heavily modded.

I love my 6spd manual TRD offroad.

I don't know that it would sell faster, but it was and is exactly what I wanted.

Have you considered a Ford Ranger? You said you don't plan on keeping this truck. The current Ranger has only been in production since 2019, and is slated for a redesign in 2023, that might get pushed back a year or two with supply chain issues, but that is unlikely. Either way there are far less T6 Ford Rangers than 3rd gen Tacomas in north America.

I would think this just depends on where you live. Certain features may be more desirable in different areas than others. That said, I would think the TRD OR would be the easiest to resell / retain more value. Just my opinion. But I am in an area that makes me biased that direction as well.

Incorrect. The T6 Ranger has been around since 2011. Only brought to NA market in 2019.
Even the ‘new’ Ranger isn’t technically a full new gen either. Much like the 2nd and 3rd ‘gen’ Tacoma.

My local dealership offered me around $27k trade in for my used 2016 SR with over 80k miles last year. I assume as long as the truck has a V6 and 4x4, it’s gonna hold its value regardless of trim.

Wanted to buy a used 2015 Tacoma but the price of a new 2016 was about the same.

I was talking about the North American market. Which can only go back to 2019 in NA.

I didn't think the new-new Ranger was an all new platform, so the T6 will be around for a while. Still the current generation will be more rare than a 3rd gen Tacoma in the NA market.

The Tacoma is only sold in NA, which is irrelevant but I wanted to throw that out there.

The Ranger is still the more rarer vehicle at the moment, and it's not a Toyota. So that might be irrelevant to the OP, but the number of Rangers is less than that of the Tacoma in 2022.

Maybe a 4Runner will be the most sellable Tacoma? Lol

I'm wondering if Toyota will refer to the 3rd gen Tacoma as a 2nd and a half gen, once the new Tacoma is released?

Pretty sure with TSS and the LED headlight refresh y’all are already in the 3.5 Gen era.

The resale on any model is always solid they just depreciate based off what kind of options you have. Leather/Sun roof will always hold value longer, premium colors are the same. Regardless though the Tacoma is an anomaly in the market and you're well protected from taking a loss on any Tacoma for the most part. Just drive it and enjoy it you're not going to want to sell it anyways!!

My two cents, five years ago it took me about 3 months to find a double cab long bed V6 automatic 4X4 that was not drastically overpriced, one year ago my truck was possibly going to be totaled after a wreck so I started looking for either a tacoma or colorado in the same configuration and ignoring price I was only able to locate a very limited number for sale in the southeast of the US.

Are 2.5 gens really a 2nd gen? I can't recall anyone calling a 1st gen anything but a 1st gen, minus the distinction between model year changes, there is some debate over which year 1st gen is the best.

3rd gens will be much more like the 2nd gens, than they will be like the 4th gens.

I don't consider the 5th gen 4runner to be that much different than the 4th gens. Similarly to the 2nd and 3rd gen 4runners.

At a minimum the 4x4 SR5 or TRD trim level will sell much faster than any other Trim Level as the
Pro and Sport and upper trims will attract a narrower slice of the buying pool. But any Tacoma will
    sell quickly...
