well the skids are delivered today, sliders not for prob 6 more weeks. plus i've got to prep and paint them. by the time they go on it may be 8 weeks from now! save the install so it'll be like a little bday gift to myself.

but yeah, the grilling and beers sounds good. I"ll let you know when I'm planning on installing them and maybe we can make it a regional mod day at one of our places.

 

thanks! I'm happy with how the wheels came out and think they look really nice with the pyrite mica! the truck is getting a wash and wax soon so I'll take some higher quality non iphone pictures when I do!

 

That explains a lot so I see where you are coming from. Well, you can still always stop in for beers and grub. I like the idea of a mod-fest. I've done that three times at my place with motorcycles.... had two come up from NJ and NY.

Thanks Rick! I'll post an update next week after I get my sliders installed (finally)... skids are finally installed after getting a blem IFS skid from Relentless a few months ago. Plasti-derp'd my emblems lost the rest of the chrome.

Next up on the mod list is a winch mount in the OEM bumper, a Harbor Freight 9k Badland winch (open for inexpensive suggestions) w/ Amsteel synthetic line and a few Rigid Industries LEDs...

 

Updated the first post with some new pictures! skids and sliders were installed last weekend (finally). Install of the skids went smooth (finally), but had some additional issues with the bolt on sliders not lining up with the holes in the frames and holes of TCase skid that mount to the frame. Overall, I happy with them and know they'll hold up to a beating, but the install was more of a PITA than I hoped for!

Next up is a winch mount in the OEM bumper and a Harbor Freight Badland 9k winch with Amsteel Blue synthetic line. After that, I think I'll be done... for awhile

 

Checking out what other kinds of granite state builds are going on, trucks coming right along! JohnnyM is moving to Hookset, we're going to see a few more wheeling runs after mud season if you're interested.

viper remote starter has been added to the xmas list so hopefully i'll get that in before the end of the year along with my aux fuse panel / winch power. then i'll just need some accessories to connect to it... like radar detector, ultragauge, CB/HAM, LED bar, bed LEDs.... aw crap. guess i'm not done!

 

Never done. I'm doing an expedition build and I know it'll never be finished. There's so much to do. Piece by piece, mod by mod...

 

I have your truck but with the long bed. Same color and year. Did you end up getting that Viper remote starter? I've been looking at them as well.

 

I didn't end up getting the viper. I got an Avital to save a few bucks.

nice truck man!!! I have the billies with 285's and the front set to the highest with 1inch wheel spacers. I'm planning to downsize to the same size tires you have once my tires are beat up, and lower the front to 1 inch. Did you need the wheel spacers to avoid rub? Or did you want them for looks?

 

thanks! I added the wheel spacers pretty much just for looks/a wider stance. I have zero issues with rubbing, but the 3/4" spacers just add a little bit more clearance to be sure.

bump for a summer update! new parts and pics!

 

Just wanted to provide an update/feedback on a generally frowned upon setup... I've been rolling on the Bilstein 5100s with OME 886s for about 11k miles and have zero complaints. Yes the ride is a bit stiffer (which can be interpreted as harsh) than the 5100/885 combo, but it matches well with my setup (Relentless sliders, IFS, mid, trans 1/4" steel skids, U.S. Offroad winch mount w/ 9000lb Badlands winch) adding a good 500lbs. This setup results in a front lift of just under 3" (2.9") and with the ICON progressive AAL, levels the truck out.

To the comments about the 5100 no being able to dampen the stiffer 886, I'm not sure I agree. I've tried beating this setup up, hitting speed bumps at 20+ mph, wheeling on NH class VI roads, and mixing in a good bit of Boston roads and highways. Yes the 886 is stiffer and it is noticeable compared to the 885, but it's certainly not rough. I've yet to get a situation where the truck is bobbing/bouncing after a speed bump or pot hole.

I'm still waiting to see how the 5100s hold up since they already had 40k miles of use with 885s prior to the 886s, but so far, so good.

My opinion is that though the 5100/886 combo isn't recommended by most offroad sites/shops/vendors, it is certainly functional and not nearly as 'harsh' as many opinions on this site indicate. Remember, it's a stiff spring, it's not going to ride like a soft spring. It works well with my setup, and I'm happy with the results at this price point.
