I have one, but have only used it once so far. It worked well and I don't recall that it wedged itself onto the housing. I've experienced stuck filters many times with other wrenches and other vehicles, but the quick resolution was always to reverse rotate the wrench while holding the stuck filter. I reckon that if my MotivX ever wedged itself to the filter housing on my '23 I'd just leave it on until reinstallation and trust that the counter-rotation would then free it up. ~3500 miles to the next change, we'll see what happens then.

So. Looking at this wrench. Seems like a lot of frustration. Has anyone tried the Toy64 cast aluminum style wrench?
I’m on the cusp doing two oil changes on my 23 Taco and wife’s 22 Rx350.

    looking for a wrench

    thanks

I just finished doing an oil change. And this is the one that I bought from Amazon it fits snug, but I can get it off easily.
IMG_0799.jpg and no, I did not use that jack in that spot to do the oil change lol. I happen to be painting my calipers.

Did you use the 3/8 drive to spin off housing or hex socket ?

Yes. While the wrench was still on the filter housing, I just wiggled the 3/8 extension back-and-forth and it came off easily.

So when I go to order this on Amazon
It says my 2023 Tacoma abs 2022 Rx350 does not fit my vehicles.

So many wrenches out there from $6 to $30. All the reviews are mixed bag.
Wish there was a definitive one to get. Geeez.

Go to Motivx.com and they will show the match ... Crapazon is notorious for "not quite completely accurate". If the worst part of the oil change is tapping the adapter to release the "oil suction", there are worse things in life.

Yep. I have the TOY64. Used it since around 2017. I’ve had it stick to the filter housing almost every oil change. I received the whole Motivix kit, funnel, drain, and tool as a gift. The Motivix looks and feels much more premium and works just the same. That all said. When I do changes on any of my 3 Toyota’s I use the Motivix. However, the Toy64 works just fine.

I have the older style motivx and it has worked well for 4 years. It occasionally get slightly stuck but it has not been a problem getting the housing off when changing the oil in my truck. I have gotten it fairly stuck with my wife's car but I just left it on until installing the new one. The dealership either overtorqued the housing, didn't lube the o-ring, or both.

Guess I’ll go with the motivx wrench. I hope it works out. I’ll update once I do the oil changes.

It will work fine always does for me. Just don’t change the oil with the engine hot slightly warm is okay not hot the reason being the plastic canister that holds the filter expands with heat and that’s why sometimes the wrench gets stuck on the canister.

If I didn’t have that I never would have got the filter housing off. It was insanely tight from the dealer oil changes and had to drop the skid and use a wrench on the nut.

I put a metal filter housing on, so far no issues. I did see a car care nut video where he said to not change them because the bypass valve tensions are different.

Just use the leverage of the ratchet and extension to rock back the tool back and forth once you've initially broken the cannister loose and before you've actually unscrewed it all the way. It'll pop loose effortlessly every time, then finish unscrewing the cannister.
That's all there is to this, literally..

I bought the MotivX #2320 tool along with the drain tool and funnel and it works great for me, no problem removing. Is Amazon maybe selling a knock-off? I got mine from the Motivxtools website.

Yeah if it was done correctly but that won’t work if the dealer or someone else cranked the shit out of it.

    I’ve had this issue also.
But I leave it on and after replacing housing and tightening it, it comes right off!

go to the motiv website and order there or find the correct model # of the wrench to make sure they are the same

One thing to do when you install the filter housing is to put some clean oil on the threads of the canister. Both o-rings should also be lubed with clean oil before installation. At the second oil change I did, the housing was a little stiffer to remove so I made sure to lube well. I had used a 3/8 drive torque wrench when installing.
