I have a 2012 TRD 4x4 crewcab offroad V6. I like the rims and tires below but I don't want to lift more than 3". Will it work? Rims only come in size listed below (for 18"). I am will to trim a little plastic in the wheel well.

Cooper Discover STT tires 285/70/R17 (33s) Procomp 7032 matte black wheels 17x9 -6 offset. Front lift: Bilstein 5100 Adjustable Shocks set at 0. OME 885x coils. Rear lift: Bilstein 5100 shocks. 1.5 inch 3 leaf progressive. I still have stock UCAs but plan on getting aftermarket ones later. I ordered the shocks and coils from headstrong offroad and the 1.5 inch 3 leaf progressive from Wheelers Offroad. 50" Radius Light bar (From Sidetracked Offroad) Mounts from Relentless Fabrication.
I'm about to run 287/70/R17 Cooper tires with 17x9 4.75 Backspacing with -6 offset on 3 inches of lift. (Bilstein 5100 front & rear shocks, 885 OME coils, & 1.5 Progressive 3 leaf for the rear). This should give me roughly around 2.5 to 3 inches of lift. I've been researching this quite a bit and a lot of people say it works. You just have to do some minor trimming. I think you will be fine with your setup, but trimming will most likely need to be done.

It would not work. I would have lift it 6". I went another route. Got BMF Rims instead.

Was it the wheel width that cause the issue? Because I believe the backspacing of that setup is 4.5". Although 10" wide rim is too wide for that tire since 285/65-18 is roughly 32.5x 11". A 3" lift is fine for that tire size with a 8" wide wheel. A 6" lift would be way overkill and look too goofy.

Yes the 10" was too wide and it would have required modifications I did not want to do.

10" wide wheel is not too wide for a 285/65r18. I ran this same set up on my truck. Even states on Toyo's wesite that size is rated for a 8"-10" wheel.

You would def have to take off the front mudflaps if running this set up and do a lil trimming but could be done with the 3" lift. I ran the 285/6518 on a 18 x 10 wheel.

IMO, it would be fine for street but any low psi applications such as off roading, an 8" wide wheel will hold the tire bead better and also adds more sidewall rubber to protect the wheel.
