First oil change this weekend at 5000 miles. Switched to Amsoil 0W-30 and wix filters. Not sure how long to go until the next change. I think Amsoil is good for 10,000 miles if not more. Change filters in between of course.

I have been doing my own study switching back and forth from conventional to full synthetic. I like the full synthetic better MOBIL 1 5W-30, it just makes the truck run smoother without a doubt.

    Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic 5w-30.

Switched the engine, both diffs, and transfer case to it at 1000mi.

Considering switching to Royal Purple or Redline next oil change due to doubts about M1's majority base stock these days.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Before you switch to Redline or RP, I suggest you read this.

A study from Amsoil showing Amsoil outperforming everyone else? No way!

I've got Royal Purple in the engine right now. The diff/tcase fluids are nowhere near needing changing at this point.

UOA's over at Bob's show Royal Purple in the engine shearing down to 20 weight at about 5,000mi. However, engine wear remains low. This suggests there might be something to RP's "high film strength" claims. A lower weight oil that still protects the engine means less friction, more power released, and better gas mileage (typically).

Less friction would be nice in the diffs too. I'm still considering it. Royal Purple seems to take the approach of high film strength in an oil that shears easily, which would be effective at reducing friction but pretty much rule out extended OCIs. Since I never planned on extended OCIs in the first place, this doesn't really bother me.

It would be really nice if we had some independent body out there that created some applicable real world tests for automotive fluids and then reviewed them as an independent source. The info would be useful.

I use Valvoleen fully synthetic mainly because they guarantee your engine for 300,000 miles if you log your oil changes and keep receipts. As far as one brand or another I think that most all of the name brands synthetics are very similar and you can find an "independent" study that supposedly declares one or the other superior for any one of them.

Sidenote: I have thought about trying to order multiple filters online if I could find them somewhere cheaper than I can get them at an auto parts store. Has anyone come across a site like that had good deals on filters?
